That depends. If it's a rusty, unbalanced blade like this one, then I'd pick the bat.
If it was a badboy like this one however, machete for sure. It would be a big improvement on the butterfly knife. With this one you can slash and stab on the outside. The bat is ****ed.
Luckbox I hope you're not planning on rumbling but if you are just carry a taser or bear spray. Nice and clean...
Hhaha...

I don't think the type of bat matters to be honest. A metal bat probably provides you with slightly more force, but if you smash someone in the head/neck with a wooden bat they are going to sleep just as quick. There is little doubt the batguy will deal the first blow. The question is, will that initial blow be impactful enough to stop knifeguys foreward momentum, strike him to the ground and finish him off.
To the people picking bat, what's your strategy going in? Do you move around or do you stand still? What do you aim for? If you miss your first shot, how do you like your chances to be able to strike again?
This is actually not how I see it going. The guy with the bat is not going to touch me with that bat. I'm very quick and that bat is very slow and only the last foot of that bat is dangerous. The bat is also a huge hinderance if you try to move fast or run with it. Basically coming forward and swinging or planting your feet and swinging are your two choices. But where it gets tricky is that if you come forward with the bat and the guy with the knife comes forward the knife guy wins. Best strategy IMO with the bat is to plant your feet and keep that bat around your waist, expectially against a guy like myself there is no way I'm gonna connect to the head with my first swing. I'd try to simply keep the other guy from rushing me. And if I can take out one of his legs I'd pretty much have him, but with that bat even in one hand is going to really slow me down where as that knife is easy to run around with.
Even best case scenario if the knife guy rushes me I'm probably gonna die.

So the accuracy of the bat is it's downfall? I haven't got much experience swinging a bat but I wouldn't think it would be that unheard of to nail even a quick opponent in the skull coming in.
Say your opponent/clone swings as you are coming in and hits you in your knifearm elbow. Do you reckon yoou would be able to hold on to the knife and rush him, or will you drop whatever is in your hand upon impact?
Just for the record, I'm a knife guy myself. I just don't think the bat is that big of a dog.

I think it's more the momentum you have to put behind a bat that's it's down fall, also it's effective range and slowness. And it also has to do with me being a relatively light guy who is very quick. If I was a bigger guy I think the odds would eventually be in favor of the bat.
Here is the thing, I'm a righty so I'm going to be swinging both weapons from my right to their left sides. If the guy could hit my knife hand I'd probably drop the knife, but I don't think it's likely to happen as my right hand is going to be out to the right or by my side until I could lock up with him. It's not like I'm trying to come forward with just the knife leading by a mile, my goal is to get the guy knifed while controlling that bat and it's not so much trade a stab for a hit but completely avoid getting hit while getting a stab off.

Yea, the guy with the bat has to commit with his swing also. The knife guy could pump fake and get a swing out of it, and rush him then. That's why I chose the knife in the first place. The guy with the bat has one chance pretty much, and he has to connect beautifully. Odds are, if it hits my back or my other arm, my adrenaline will mask a lot of the pain and allow me to continue since I'm in a fight to the death.
Hell, I saw a video on youtube with a guy helping a buddy out who's getting jumped by a gang guys get hit in the head with a metal baseball, and he just turned around and looked at the guy. It made a loud crack and it came in with some force, and the dude had his back turned so he didn't even see it coming. It wasn't even wobbled.
After seeing that, it leads me to believe that worst case scenario I could maybe absorb a blow and get inside and start stabbing. Once I land the first stab, it's pretty much game over for the other guy.
I'd need to go to the hospital soon after the fight lol.

Guys, you don't need to swing the bat for it to be effective- you can jab with it to damage your opponent's eyes/face/throat and/or get him off-balance.
Yup, smarter thing to do might be to wield a bat both ends, or more evenly along its length. You lose a little in range but you gain in dexterity and speed.
In my opinion, but certainly not mu experience, a stab wound isn't the end game for a fight. You hear about guys dying of 17 stab wounds hours later at the hospital. In a fight its not going to be a KO, but I'd definitely take its relaitve speed and versatility over a bat.
