About to play some 10NL to cool down from my second biggest losing day ever yesterday. Hopefully I'll have some interesting hands to post when I'm done.

Edit: Couldn't play for long as my laptop keyboard is acting up. Suddenly it mashes backspace for no reason and that's not too good when you're playing poker. Gonna try to have it fixed before I return to the tables.

I think my line here with AA is pretty optimal for a number of reasons and the way the board ran out was perfect for me.

Yah there's many way to play rockets. I like your flat call, although I probably would have re-raised on the flop, but at the end of the day if you win the pot that's all that matters. I actually decided to slow roll with Aces the other day and take out three players simultaneously. Needless to say it backfired...haha! Learned that from Phil Gordon's Little Green Book for advanced play. Most people try to isolate, I do but depending on the situation I may try to get a few more callers even though it decreases my chances significantly. Then again I like to live dangerously.

I like mixing it up from time to time deviating from the standard lines. Think that's one of the main reasons why the pro gamers have been playing PLO.

A new book I'm reading is by Jonathan Duhamel about his 2010 WSOP Main Event win. Pretty informative.

Just got home from a tourney. Went busto with snowmen vs captain hooks, but won it back and some in a 1-2 ring game which I usually abhor. Learning the art of thin betting to extract maximum value from opponents.

Pots weren't too crazy as most seemed to be pretty conservative players. Off the top my head w/ a manual poker tracker...hah...hah.

Me small blind: Up and down with a 78 off. I pop it up to $5 preflop and get a caller.

Big blind calls.

Flop: 5 6 Q rainbow
I bet $5. Call.
Turn: 5
I check expecting a possible raise. Check...check...free card. :P
River: 4
I bet $20 and surprisingly guy only calls with trip 5's.
*NOTE* If he raised me hard on the turn I may have folded. A few others in the pot, but folded after the flop.

Pot about $60.

Prior hand which was my favorite.

I like to live dangerously so I pop it up to $5.

Me: Most would have checked and opened, but I already put em on a mid pair. Also note how I've been C-betting all the way through. I bet out $25 and he hesitated for awhile before reluctantly calling with A8.

Yes, I'd say this is the single most important aspect of low stakes poker, along with bet sizing and disciplined laydowns. People love to call and hate to fold and you should be exploiting this as much as possible.

Bet bigger for value on the turn on the KJ hand. Apart from that well played. Love the value bet on the river.

True, $10 was 40% of the pot. It served as a dual purpose. See where I'm at and to keep em in there. If he re-raised me I didn't commit much. Fifteen might have been the max, then I'm not sure he would have called my $25 on the river. I look to outplay opponents towards the end as I'm a post flop specialist and I can tell you are as well with controlled raises. I hate...HATE going all in pre-flop unless the pot is big enough and I feel I have the best hand. Even still it's lottery poker once it goes in.

You had a hand that people dream of in high stakes cash. Set over set. Til this day I've folded a few sets on major hands that made me shed a tear.

Once I flopped a set on an a diamond board.

Over $2k in already, but I knew my friend flopped some sort of wacky flush. I would have snapped the guy on my left since he was on tilt and probably playing an Ace high diamond draw. I folded and my friend took it down with a Queen high flush with a 7d kicker.

Another time hit a set of 9's with all clubs. Guy goes all in. I was like what the. Had to angle to see what he had then I figured out he actually hit it. But I said f*** it, this guy and I always go to war so I called, he had second nut flush (K high) but I hit my quads. Where's that Steve Carrel gif...hahaha!

It's all about set mining.

PS: Do you multi table.

You all have any good references on how to get started? Like strategies and such? I have wanted to play but I'm not nearly good enough to make any real money off of it.

Welcome to our poker lounge! Best bet is to grab Doyle Brunson's poker bible; Super System I. You've probably seen Rounders, after you read it then watch it again so you understand the nuances of poker, the lingo, jargon even, and of course the setting. Live vs online is fairly different. I've played in real life underground games like that which is like art imitating life or life imitating art. Back alley, cameras, security, etc...etc. Casinos are fun but those games have an aura to it that's different.

Then play some freerolls on Full Tilt or Poker Stars although it's very loose. At least you can get some practice in. Once you have an idea on what hands to play and more importantly how to play it then you can start with the .1/.2 cent games or .5/.10 then progress from there.

But hey we all started playing small games in the beginning then gradually learned and progressed.

Easy game to learn, but takes a lifetime to master.
