Obama lying about past military family members.
He is definately doing the right thing to win this election.

That's a warrior, willing to lay his life on the line. I've had Marines that have laid their lives on the line for the man next to him, and for their family and country. That's a warrior. The guy who goes into some athletic contest who has no war experience, in my eyes, really has no right to call himself that. That's a coveted thing to call someone, and that's what I call my Marines. Those are warriors." - Brian Stann

This seems more than a bit silly.
I wonder how many other family recollections have been 'misremembered' or embellished by those handing down the story?
Besides, there's no way he'll ever top the guy that was an actual POW. Although, given a choice between the pilot that completed his mission and the one that got captured...

How is it silly? Any historian would laugh at what he just said.

He wasn't taking a course on WWII, last I checked.
It's silly because it's irrelevant. He's retelling a story that's been handed down to him about his family. His ignorance is shared by the majority of Americans, unfortunately. For example, no one in his audience seemed to be aware of his mistake and the author of the article needed to look it up himself.
Now, if Obama showed the same ignorance on domestic policy, say he claimed not to understand the economy, for example, or if he showed the same ignorance on foreign policy, say, he didn't know the difference between Shia and Sunni Muslims, for example, then it would be an important issue.
None of these candidates would ace a history exam, much less an economics or foreign affairs exam. I can't vote for any of them, although, Obama does at least appear to be a rational human being. The other two are simply pathetic (see 'gas tax holiday').
Oh, and accusing Obama of 'lying' when at this point, he's just ignorant, is a bit much, making this seem even sillier.

Well, when that particular family member didn't even exist and that liberation was done by the USSR, to me, shows that he is just trying to get some sort of sympathy that he had someone in the military that did something important.
I guess it offends me since my whole family has military experience and have been in nearly every war and s a politician that wants an office is making up stories to sympathize with others who were actually in a war.

I can agree with you on that one. I hate that politicians run wars.

Which is sad since history, economics and foreign affairs is the core of what someone should be expert at in order to run a nation.
Again, I agree that these candidates aren't the best.

I say he is lying because he made up this uncle. This uncle doesn't even exist. As you said, maybe it was a false story passed down from his family members, but I doubt that.
On a side note, this made me question him since I live in Michigan and would rather him say how he is going to carry out these promises rather than say what he is going to do and not explain.

I would wait until all the details come out before concluding that neither a Presidential candidate nor his campaign had the foresight to realize that making up a relative would be something the press might pick up on.

I think he is referring to Bush before the Iraq war when he didn't realize what would happen after we took Saddam out of power.
