My friends dont think im crazy so much as they dont understand why i like it. For some damn reason they associate it with that wrestling bullshit and are quick to put it off. When I finally got them to sit down and get a PPV, it was the Shamrock Ortiz 2 PPV and as we all know, IT BLEW GOATS......needless to say they have all drawn conclusions from how bad that one PPV was. I have the worst luck....

Well there are those who enjoy watching two people fight for real and there are those who enjoy other things in life that don't involve fighting like Basketball or Hockey. In the beginning I was very skeptical about the whole MMA thing..as I was more into Basketball...then i realized how beautiful the art really was...and it took me quite a long time to actually get into MMA as whole meaning (boxing, wrestling, bjj, judo etc etc) the more I watched each one of those..(on the internet) the more I got hooked. Then I turned on the TV one day and bam UFC. I had no clue what it was and it looked kinda funny watching a guy mounted on another guy. You should've seen the look on my face, I was just laughing. Then the blood started to appear and from then on...I never looked back to this sport . It just takes some time for some people so you never know..maybe one of your friends will pop up in the gym one night !

That reminds me of that attempt I made with the PPV, my friends just sat there and kept pointing out how "gay" it was. God I was so pissed. But it was one of those situations where they make fun of you for getting pissed about them making fun of something. God that night sucked ass....

Nah man...I bet you've had more crappier nights then that. Who cares really what your friends think, Because as we know MMA is spreading like wildfire and will soon become very very popular ( not that it already is ). I also remember when one of my friends was like "gay. what's so great about watching 2 grown men humping each other" Then when something great happens like a gNp or a slam...or even elbows to the head..and when they see blood..thats when they get all happy and giddy..-_- they never learn to respect BJJ =P

Everytime i talk to my friends about it, they always bring up how gay it is when they mount and hug each other. My roommate pretty much just ignores me when i watch mma videos. I think the best way to introduce mma to someone and to get rid of that "gay" mentality is to show them some chuck liddell fights. He has good takedown defense so even when he goes down, he gets right up. Slowly they'll ease up and be interested in the ground game as well as the stand up.

^ good idea. The mentality of those who don't know anything about BJJ and only about the standup game pisses me off.

None of my friends have a clue I get on this forum all the time. I just never really talk about it. Whenever I talk MMA around my friends they sound interested but not as interested as they should be. I wanna get the Real Deal tonight but I probably wont be able to because unlike the UFC events people dont wanna get together and pitch in to buy it.
