Nice to hear from a skiier who doesn't hate us snowboarders though. Seems like most of them do, and I don't get why- it's not 1990 anymore and snowboarding is a big pillar of support in the snow resort industry.

I live in snow country, as you may know, and it always seemed like an age thing to me, like uptight old people hating on kids who were snowboarding. I know there's plenty of younger people who ski, but there's hardly any old people who snowboard, kwim?

i spent ten years in a cold, northern, canadian city. Where... for lack of warm things to do i guess, most people skiied or snowboarded. I fu*king hate all things snow/-40 degrees related so it wasn't for me. the snowboarder vs skiier stuff is just older skiiers hating on boarders takinbg up space on the slope.

I grew up in vancouver and my dad was the executive chef at a fancy pants whistler spot for a while, so i actually learned to snowboard at a really young age on whistler of all places. Never stuck with me though, i always prefered to just ride my deck on warm concrete.

I was born in Vancouver, grew up in extreme Northern Michigan, live now in upstate NY. I grew up cross country skiing. I like winter sports, but the indoor ones like skating.

I would say I'd buy a killer pair of figure skates but I already has a swanktacular pair of Harlicks. Due to lucky circumstances, and an awesome skating teacher, I got them for a fraction of the $800-$1000 they normally go for. The boot is unbelievable.

I haven't tried skating since I broke my ankle; it's time to get back on the ice, and yes, I can jump. I don't have mad ups or anything, but I can do single jumps.

Yeah, in Van it rains all winter so there isnt a big snow culture. Of course there is on Whistler + Blackcomb which is a short drive away. There is a mountain in Van called Grouse (sp) but at least where i grew up (lower income) the closest most of us came to snow was a dirty gravel and snow packed snowball before the rain washed it away or: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1b...informer_music

In Edmonton... there is snow for 6 months of the year so for me not digging on ice or cold it wasn't a very good fit. That snow also came with as low as -50c (-58f) degree blizzards and a median temp of around -20c. I don't mind snow, i just hate the bitter cold. That's similar to temps around the Lakes, huh? Although, the lakes get four whole seasons too?

I guess Upstate New York would get it's fair share of winter? But probably warmer than the lakes?

Our winter is almost as long as Edmonton, and probably just as snowy and cold. We have beautiful sparkly winter days a lot of the time, which makes it tolerable, but I grew up in the snow also, in upper Michigan. (Far enough north that we got Thunder Bay TV).

For some reason I think it's fun to layer up, leave the house, go to the gym, strip down partially, work out, layer back up, go home, shower.

I think most men would agree on the beach over the winter any time based soley on the fact that chicks are less clothed when strolling the beach.

Then again, some chicks on the beach should be more clothed...what has been seen cannot be unseen.
