Yeah no straws at all. If you suck or spit (no sexual pun intended) it can rip out the blood clots in your gums. At least that is what the dentist told me. I ate a lot of soup at first and then lived off of oatmeal for the most part. When they started healing more I could eat other things. At one point I was so tired of oatmeal, I made a hot dog and then ripped the outer layer off, and the middle was kinda soft and soggy, that was still kind of hard to eat. I would also make a cheese sandwich and then microwaved it to make it really soft, and then ripped off the crust. But those are more for when they are mostly healed.
But for early on, I would say things like soup, oatmeal, pudding, applesauce, etc...
