there are a zillion physiological and social conditions that affect this situation, breaking it down to "it's all about self-control" is an oversimplifcation of both history and chemistry.

I wasn't implying people are weaker willed at all...that is what I was arguing against. My theory is that people that "can't" quit don't really want to quit or still "enjoy" smoking for some reason.
Ask any psychologist or psychiatric professional, breaking a habit of 30 years is the same degree of difficulty as breaking a habit of 5 years. Your body is built to "remember" things, be it in muscle memory or just everyday routines. The only difference in quitting smoking is the 72 hour physical addiction one needs to get past first. All you have to do is reprogram your mind to desire something else or nothing at all. People that can't break habits don't really want to. If you want to label them as weaker for it, then go ahead, but I won't. I just don't think they are as committed as they think they are.
