Left is a brindle whippet normal sized, right is a bully whippet.

Whippets can run up to 40mph and have been known to jump over 8 foot fences.

My wifes aunt has a whippit, cool dog but very timid and very fast, he got scared by a german shepard when I was walking him one time an took off, when he got to the end of his retractable leash his paws pointed straight up and I though he was gonna take my shoulder right off. They are funny looking though, so skinny.

Its called Gross muscle hypertrophy caused by a mutation in the myostatin gene--- this disorder causes severe and painful muscle cramps in the dog---

I hope breeders are NOT cashing in on this disease at the expense of folks who have no clue what they are getting into---

Bully Whippets are 100% healthy and normal tempered, the gene is a "mutation" yes but that's what every gene is.

It only a very slight chance at hip displaysia, something most dogs over 35lbs risk getting. It does not lead to muscle cramps (guess you assumed big muscles = instant muscle cramps?) or "severe pain."

Nope has NOTHING to do with Assuming--- it has to do with research has to do with some hands on expirience with the disorder
and knowing about it for quit sometime and knowing folks who have unfortunatly owned them.

Anyhow I am not gonna argue the point--- its NOT what I do or what I come here for--- I state what I KNOW to be the facts and move on---

Thats what I KNOW TO BE FACT and now Ill move on.

Khov after reading this I did a little looking around and Satori is right, whippets with a single mutated gene are desired because they are extremely fast, if they have two mutated genes they become double muscled or "bully whippets" problem is that the heart and lungs do not increse in size so they are unable to provide enough oxygen to feed the muscles which leads to muscle cramps from excersise (since muscles cannot recover at a normal rate) as well as exceedingly short life expectancies due to the added stress on the heart.

Correct, it's from the gene doubling, but the problem with Bully Whippets is you can't treat them like a normal whippet. You have to treat a B.W. like you would treat a larger dog like a St. Bernard.

ie, don't take them to the speed or agility courses, don't play endless frisby with them, don't sprint with them, etc. All stuff that's great for normal whippets, but aren't ideal for the B.W.'s frame.
