AWTA. 28k is a ridiculous amount of money to be scrounging off the government. I was unemployed and on Job Seekers allowance in the UK for a few months, it was so degrading having to go into the job centre and be talked to like a moron every 2 weeks, and I was getting just over £50 a week. How on earth does he claim 28k a year?
As for the OP, I'd have to agree with the guys that posted before me. Find something you've got a passion for and like doing. I'm personally going back to college this September to start a 2 year sport coaching course, to try and get into cricket coaching as a profession, either that or personal training with the hope of going on and making it as an MMA Strength + Conditioning coach. They're 2 things I would love to do for a living, and I'd happily put up with coaching cricket for less money than being bored out of my brains in an office 40 hours a week.

I honestly have no idea, I've never had to file for unemployment. I always kinda thought it would be more strict about giving money to random people. Apparently the amount they pay you is in some way based off what you made at the job you were laid off from.

It is. When I was laid off for a while from my old job I made a nice check compared to most people. It is based off some equation about what you made at your job you lost, but you can only stay on it for 4 quarters of a year, then you ahve to work to build back more time and pay more money on unemployment insurance. Your friend needs to get a damn job and quit having us pay for him to be a f***ing lazy ass bro.
People that milk the government assistance programs make me sick.

NY and NJ get all the people from other states, which is to say pretty much every state south of here on the East Coast, because they pay much more in welfare and Medicaid. That's why our taxes are so high.
In the meantime, in my town at least, people hire relatives or their friend from high school. Otherwise, you're SOL.

Personally I've never liked or enjoyed work. In fact if I got laid off I might do what my friend's doing. In my mind all work is just whoring out your time, so might as well take top dollar for it. As long as its relatively easy, and I don't mind whatever it is im doing its about the same as doing anything else imo.

I am gonna call bullshit on this one. Unemployment does end. But because of the economy it has been extended for a few months longer. No way in hell he is getting it indefinitely.
There is a small chance the state he lives in made a mistake which your friend will have to pay back some or all the money he collected.

Oh for sure. And I mean he is kind of hurting himself as well. At the very least he's missing out on work experience, keeping sharp, new contacts and I know he could be making more.
I can't really talk bad about the guy, I am pretty high from the 7g he sold me.

I think it may be a thing people do everywhere.

Maybe so, I dunno except what he's told me and what I've googled. Apparently you can stay on unemployment for 79 weeks or just over 18months, and then you have to get extensions? You're probably right, not forever, but quite possibly a few years if you can get extensions.
