During the research for my masters thesis some time ago I've gone through some of my good old Asterix comics I still had from childhood/adolescence and had to realise how much subtle brilliant humour I missed when I was younger and couldn't understand all the gags that could be found below the rather slapstick surface. The creators Goscinny and Uderzo are/were really geniuses.

Yeah I assume I have to wait for the Trades to come out now. Spose I could start getting the comics but I already have loads of series going right now.

EDIT - Just read, Ultimatum: Requiem bridges the gap between 'Ultimate Spider-Man' and 'Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man'.

And Peter has died before in non Ultimate versions, he always comes back. Just like Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, Wolverine, Carnage etc etc etc Superhero's never stay dead. Peter will return and take over from the new Spidey.

I loved Ultimate Peter Parker. I hate Brian Michael Bendis.

I haven't bought a DC comic since the first run of Tarzan and John Carter. ( I'd read everything Edgar Rice Burroughs ever wrote by the time I was 12)

I love comic novels. FAR more then normal novels. My collection is growing fast.

Where to start...

Alan Moore. I love him. From Hell is an *amazing* book. Watchmen is so far ahead of the movie in terms of story and intensity, that its embarrassing that they even tried to film it.

Garth Ennis. Both Preacher and The Boys are fecking awesome. The former is god damn disgusting in places. I love it. The Boys is the best collection of super hero books ever. Paints them to be a bunch of nasty wankers, as you *know* they would be if they existed.

The Walking Dead is absolutely gripping. As far as storytelling go, it pisses on the TV series from a great height.

I'm currently reading The Dark Tower from Stephen King. Not the best story ever, but the artwork? Man O man... the artwork is glorious. If imagery is your thing, you absolutely HAVE to check them out.

The Filth, under the Vertigo label, is some of the most twisted, perverted, confusing shit Ive ever read. Been through it 3 times and im still confused. Always leaves me feeling really disturbed.

The darker side of Batman is also fantastic. Arkham Asylum is a twisted book with twisted artwork.


But, my favourite, without a shadow of a doubt: Transmetropolitan. The whole thing from beginning to end ( 10 books ) is absolutely top draw entertainment. If anybody reads it and doesn't laugh all the way through... well, those people have no brain.


God, ive only just touched on the series of books. Ive got ao many individual books that are also awesome. I'll leave it here for now!

I definitely have to pick up The Walking Dead it seems... Whenever I go to buy Graphic Novels/Comics I *always* end up buying ones that will go towards completing a certain collection. So bloody expensive. Hmph.

I've yet to read the Dark Tower Graphic Novels, although the actual novels were ******* superb.

Ahhh... Frank Miller. I forgot about him. Very very cool. I like how the movies based on Franks books really do them justice... unlike just about every other comic/movie tie-in. I guess Franks story's are quite uncomplicated, relying on emotion and excellent artwork, which transfer to movies really well, as opposed to shit by dudes like Alan Moore.

Anybody read the 30 Days of Night books? That also have god damn amazing artwork. really creepy and horrible. Everything Ben Templesmith draws is awesome. The films, once again, were complete shite by comparison.
