You hit the nail on the head. For some reason, our culture is fascinated with, and romanticizes, the concept of having way too many kids. This is only slightly less irresponsible if the parent in question is a millionaire. What ends up happening, IMO, is that people who don't know any better feel that it's a great idea to have more kids than they can support, and become a burden on state and federal aid systems.

I live in upstate New York. NY and NJ have historically paid far more in welfare and Medicaid benefits than many of the southern state, so guess who's coming to dinner?

speak of the devil a friend of mine has been on unemployment for like 2.5 years. i was under the impression it only lasts for like 9months? apparently he keeps getting extensions. he makes more than he did when he worked, has a BA and could get a job with the snap of a finger. he says "nah, work is for suckers". -.-

but to his credit he's gained 20lbs and runs a guild on world of warcraft.
