I live in an area surrounded by ocean, rivers and lakes, yet have not purchased one or a boat. I think it's about time I get some use out of the deeper parts of the water, rather than just off the shore. I will mostly be going out in it in lakes and rivers.
I'm looking to buy an ocean fishing Kayak. I want it to be 1 seater. It also must be a sit-on-top Kayak, not a sit-inside. My price range is not over $800, but would rather like to pay in the $500-700 area.
Two examples of what I'm thinking are below, let me know if you guys think they are worth the price and all that.
The user reviews should be helpful. I don't know what you're specific wants/needs are, but I can't think of a single issue I've had with it. I don't know how well it would do in the ocean, though.

I mostly use it for fishing on open lakes in the boundary waters area and some river fishing. It has done fine on the few rapids that I've hit, but it is not for aggressive rapids. It is crazy stable compared to other kayaks I've used, but it takes a while to get used to balancing kayaks in general.
I mostly used Ocean brand Kayaks before this one, but now that I moved out I don't have that kind of cash. Ocean Kayaks are super nice too, but I always had issues finding space for all my gear.

We had two when I was a kid and were less than 5 miles from a good sized river. It was just a hassle to get them loaded up and get to the water. I believe we used them twice in 6-8 years and ended up selling them for half what they cost.
Rapala is an awesome fishing game and as much as you like video games I'd think you'd get more use out of it is all.

Yes it has quite a bit more space than the average kayak, but it is still a kayak so don't expect to bring 7 tackle boxes out or anything. The only thing I would change about mine is the color. I have the tan model, and kayaks are supposed to be brightly colored so if there is an accident you can be easily spotted.
Honestly the best piece of advice I think I could give would be to go rent a kayak with a buddy for a day and just go paddle it around. Maybe do this twice and go to different types of water. That way you can take note of things that you liked and didn't like about the rental kayaks and you'll have a better idea of what it is you want/need.
