I do not think that's WHY people are not supporting America, in fact I don't think that even crosses anyone's mind when they are not placing their hand over their heart for the anthem or whatever. I fully believe it is a direct result of this "one team" mindset, however, and I for one am glad it is starting to fade out.

I see what you are saying but I also see that as rather utopian at this point. And when the members of a nation stops supporting it that nation dies out and is often taken over or conquered. When we lose a sense of supporting the nation we have and the principles that's when another nation come in and takes us over or a dictator comes to power.

This is absolutely true.

However, I think that if we are to evolve or grow as a race/society, there has to be some start, and that's really all it is right now is just a start, there are still many people in America that are still in the mindset of life devotion for no reason other than they live here.

Right now, people are just starting to branch out of that mentality and where it takes us is up for grabs, but I support it even with such a risk, as a change is definitely needed.

It's the mindset that we're on one team and we are some united people that don't let other people from a separate section of rock join us/take pride with us, which is the same mindset cultures thousands of years ago had, and this process has lead to billions of people being murdered and their lives stripped from them for such silly ideas over these thousands of years.

Like your example of Brazil, they mindlessly vote for and irrationally support their own countries fighters, even if they are jerks, even if they say stupid stuff, even if they do this or that, they support them, simply because they come from the same section of rock. Yes but for this evolution to take place there needs to be many nations involved just one nation will result in nothing but the downfall of that nation. Also the US itself is broken up and divided into republican vs democrat, black vs white vs latino, and the list goes on. Shouldn't we unite as americans first then move on to the next step?

We've been united as American's for a very long time, it's only recently that it's been fading. It's not like it has never been, and we should try it out. We've tried it out, for quite a long time, and now it's fading.

Time to move on from such a mindset, even if it has risks.

Before I continue I would like to say I am glad we are able to discuss this like rational people and refrain from flaming and I will rep you for that when my cycle comes back around

Well looking at the number of problems America is facing I would think patriotism and unity as Americans would be more important than it has been in a long time. Global unity is the next step in evolution however i belive now is not the time there are far too many problems that need to be worked out before this can happen.

I believe and I am sad to say that the American people today are becoing more self centered and really down right cowardly when the point their finger at someone else for their troubles instead of tackling them themselves and I think that is the main reason for the loss of patriotism. I have studied the fall of the roman empire and I have to say it sees as though we are following the same path.

It's always good to discuss such a thing in a civil way, there's nothing to get riled about anyways, just opinions after all.

The thing is, the problems we are facing are being caused mostly by the government, not the people. You are right that the people are more self centered and more concerned about themselves. There are two major reasons for this:

1. As I said, we have such a giant social outlet now, that we know probably 100% more information, view points, ideas, thought processes, cultures, how societies work around the world, etc, than people here in America (and even other countries) knew 50-100 years ago. They see the laws over there, the rules over there, how that place is run, they can talk to citizens over there via chat, and through all this they learn to respect/unite in other things than America.

The world is growing up as a whole because of the technology that allows us to discuss our lives with people all around the world, and people are realizing quickly, and very quickly (like last 15 years it's been open enough to do this), that there's a lot more to respect and be proud of in this world than where you were born by accident.

2. America isn't taking care of us, so we must take care of us on our own. With health care that takes your life savings and puts you into a life of debt forever just because we got sick, to laws being brought up like SOPA/Protect IP that are trying to take away even more freedom of speech and progression, to hiring high school graduates for the role of police officer, where many of them abuse their power and make the normal person dislike the ones who are "supposed" to aid us and protect us (obviously not all police are like this, my point is there needs to be much, MUCH MUCH higher standards on who can and cannot be a police officer).

America does not paint a pretty picture in today's world, American's are not relying on a government and country that is screwing them day in and day out, they are worrying about their own hide now. Doing things for themselves, if the government gets hurt then many people's mentality is that's fine, seeing as how they hurt us constantly.

anyone sitting in a comfortable chair, in a heated home, reading this on their computer, owes everything that they have to the strife and struggles of the Patriots of their country.

Without them your life would look like this.



and you would never know the luxury of sitting on your ass and criticizing everything that others have done while you have done nothing.

You'd be too concerned with what or who you were going to eat next.
