BAMMA 13: 1 week to go (14th September 2013)
Well, it's been a couple of weeks since I last posted, but with good reason, I have been on holiday and also as you can imagine the closer we get the event the crazier things get.
Well, time's a wasting so lets get to it.
- As with any MMA event injuries seem to been present and BAMMA 13 is no different, first we lose Dave Faulkner which was a bit of a blow to the undercard as it was one of the more popular choices, however Jude Samuel our ever brilliant Matchmaker and head of (Fighter) Talent Relations gets Adam "Boa" Boussif as replacement. For all of you unaware Boa is one of the up and coming young British talents and it's great to have him on the show.
Then Jake Murphy goes and injures his shoulder and is out for 10-12 weeks, which causes big problems as he's in the LW Title fight with Curt Warburton. Again we find a more than worthy replacement in the shape of Mansour "Tarzan" Barnaoui, who is quite possibly more of a threat than Murphy was.
- One of the biggest issues when I came on board was the quite frankly appalling website which was an absolute mess. So one of my first jobs was to get that sorted, well after some blood sweat and tears (+ a series of late nights) working with the Your FIght Site web development team we are almost ready to launch the new site, which will be something to be proud of and something that will be one of the best MMA sites in the world I kid you not. Currently I'm just inputting a lot of data press releases while our developer fixes back end bugs and our creative director adds in all the missing images that are required.
- The event itself is this Saturday in Birmingham UK and we are now into the final push for ticket sales and then at some point this week we will start the push for the TV programme (5* Live in the UK, AXS-TV in the US , Fight Network in Canada as well as Russia, Brazil and now Abu Dhabi as well.) So behind the scenes final hotel rooms are getting sorted plans for the broadcast with the TV team, getting the cage crew (Cutmen, refs etc) briefed and in place.
Also, the MW clash between Scott Askham and Jorge Luis Bezerra has been changed to a BAMMA World Title fight as Askham signed an extention to his exclusive deal with us earlier in the week.
We also had a major addition to our broadcast team in the shape of Frank Trigg who's signed to a long term contract with us replacing Mike Schieavello who was unavailable for the event.
Also, part of my role is co-ordinating the BAMMA Belles, so I am on the phone organsing when they are coming down, hotel rooms, outfits etc. Also we have a new 3rd Belle at every event now so I had to find a suitable 3rd lady to add to the team, which when you see the amount of emails we get from wannabe ring girls it's not an easy choice.
Finally, we have started working on BAMMA 14 in the background, making calls to set the main event in place which while I can't talk about it yet, will be absolutely amazing.
So we are getting to that crazy time known as fight week and the final things fall into place and probably there will be some last minute dramas, but the next blog I should be posting from my hotel room after weigh ins to let you know how it's all going.
Hope you enjoyed the read, comments are always welcome.
