Why did Belfort get 4 tries to make weight?

I've never been too sure about the exact rules for the weigh ins. I thought you got one try, then you could come back in a few hours and try again.

It was really 2 tries, not 4.

DropKicker 09-18-2009 08:36 PM

it wasn't 4 tries... it was done all at once on the scale at the same time..basically peiece by peiece off... 4 tries is a little bit exaggerated... now if he would've went from the back locker room to the scale 4 times to try for weight than yes that's 4 times... but no not in this situation..

you get as many tries as you want, as long as the "tries" are contiguous. Let me give you the real timeline:

1) weighed in with clothes. Didn't make weight.

2) took off clothes. Didn't make weight

3) took off ring. didn't make weight

4) spent a little time cutting. made weight.

So in other words, the first three were one right after the other with clothes/accessories removed, which is not at all uncommon.

Would the UFC/NSAC actually only allow him two tries? He's the main event, and it would be a huge disappointment, and money loss.

Yes they would. As far as I know, you have an hour after missing weight to make it again and I'm assuming that anywhere in there you'd get any number of tries you needed, so long as you make it within the hour.

Can't they just erase the match and announce a new main event of Franklin vs Belfort at 196 or something or is it too late. Its not like someone is not going to order the ppv tomorrow just because its at 196 now.

I almost don't know what to say to this but I think I came up with something decent. Yes let's scrap the mainevent to a ppv a day before the event even though people already ordered it or had plans to watch it somewhere with friends or even better bought tickets to the event. Quick contact Dana and tell him your brilliant buisness plan.

I don't think that is what he meant...
He was saying what if they changed the 195 weight limit to a new 196 catch weight between Franklin and Belfort, like what they did with Franca/Griffin at the last second...

Yeah that's what i took from his comment also..I know 1lb isn't much but Rich made they weight and if Vitor plans on going down to 185lbs then there is no reason for him not to make the cut which he eventually did so everything is good..

By the way I didn't get to watch all the weigh ins what happened with the Hermes Franca Match u did they up the weight for some reason ?
