Blind fighter....

I just got into a "fight for fun" night down at the local park we have here.

The guy I was set up to fight is around my weight class, around 130lbs.
I'm a bit slender, but quick on my toes...
But that's not my point. Sorry.

Thing is, I'm really near sighted, and when the other guy and I were set up to fight (using this off brand ufc gloves, using kicks and all) I lost.
The match lasted a literal one minute because, it was a bit dark, and I can't see.
I wear glasses, not contacts, and the odds were so against me tonight. I can't utilize anything I've learned when I cant see.

I've taken a few MMA courses but only a few because I'm not signed up for a full membership, and it costs $20 a pop if I want to do anything without the membership.

At this point, I feel like a loser because the match was so short.
Losing doesn't irk me that bad, but the fact that I lost so quickly.
I received a split lip and man it sucks.

So what should I do?
I told him next Friday we can go again. (were friends just fyi)

But what should I do?
Practice more, get contacts, fight during the day, or what?
I don't have a ton of experience, but I know a handful of TKD moves...

Any advice?

my advice to you is to stop fighting in parks, its really dangerous, stupid and doesnt prove a point, if you and your friends want to fight then join a gym and spar. Its people who fight in parks and backyards that bring a bad name to MMA.

I kind of figured it wasn't going to be good, but nobody else really has a membership anywhere.
Like I said, it's all for fun and nothing serious or personal. But I see your point.

I understand its all for fun, but the thing is.. look at your split lip. What if it was a broken neck? what if you were paralized? its always for fun, just because its fun doesnt mean shit doesnt happen

claydanzig 10-24-2009 01:09 PM

Yes I know...
The split lip, doesn't bother me much, it's just the fact that it all had to end so quickly.

As stupid as it is, I blame my poor eye sight hindering me to dodge attacks. (that's typically what I'm good at). At this point, what else do you suggest? just sparring in the gym from now on?

wel training in the gym even before you spar, learn a art like BJJ or muay thai and get good. then deal with the fighting after

claydanzig 10-24-2009 01:28 PM

Just off to the side, do you suggest bjj and muay thai as opposed to TKD or Wing chun?
I've done a bit in those 2...

its not the martial art its the way you use it. but MT and BJJ are probally the most commonly used martial arts. Aside from boxing and kick boxing that is

I see.
Thank you very much for your help.

Lol 130 pounds??? arnt you kinda embarrassed to be fighting in a park weighing 130 pounds??? no one laughs at you?

*Sigh* You people that street fight for the heck of it are disgusting and pathetic. Its idiotic to be fighting in the streets... just because you put on 6 ounce gloves or w/e they are doesnt make it any different. You have a busted lip to show for it and nothing else. What you are doing isnt a Sport like what MMA fighters are doing. Your almost insulting them by doing that kinda stuff in a park and trying to imitate them. What your doing isnt cool and none of the real fighters would feel good about you doing it. Quit giving MMA a bad name and grow the **** up already. If you want to street fight weighing 130 pounds then im sure you can find a middle school and pick a fight with those kids there, atleast then it wont have anything to do with MMA.

Also if your trying to fight for fun go buy some boxing gloves or even sock em boppers and keep it in your house or your backyard.
