Questions and Concerns about starting out
I have never fought in any MMA. I have a background of 4 years of amateur wrestling. I'm currently 25, and i've just started going back to the gym to get into shape. With my current work it makes it hard for me to join any mma schools. I was wondering with my background in wrestling, would it be possible to pickup something similiar say BJJ from reading books (first than when work changes going to a school).
Thanks for all the help
It's nice to learn some techniques from the books but until you get to the gym and actually implement what you've read, you're not gonna learn much imo.
Good luck with your training anyways.
You can, depending on your own personal abilities (everyone learns different), pick up a lot from books and videos...
It will never match what you will learn from a real, live instructor. You may not notice things you are doing incorrectly, and you wont have the ability to properly train with a resisting partner. You need an instructor for these.
First off welcome to the forum! :thumb02:
I have a few books for standup techniques and grappling, but I have learned that the only way to really perfect these techniques is to use them while training. If I were you, I would invest in a grappling dummie, they aren't the cheapest things in the world, but they can help you get the basic techniques down. But it is much more of a benefit to learn techniques on actual people so you learn how to transition and react to what someone else would do.
I hope this helps!
