Best Way to end a fight quick? throwing Punches or go for the takedown
ok im a striker but i was working On my take downs with my BJJ trainer today and i got some fast take downs. Say Im fighting My PRO MMA debut... is it better if I come out and throw Hooks and go for the stand Up Ko or just rush at him and go for the fast take down and sweep him off his feet and ground and Pound Him... which one is better and why?
Appreciate the responses  |

If you are a boxer and got fast takedowns you can always go for the takedown get a few hits and stand back up. You will have your opponent thinking takedowns. then you can fake a takedown and come in with a punch or W/E. If your opponent gives you problems striking take him down, if he's a JJ specialist keep teh fight on the feet. |

If you're against a wrestler, stand up throw punches till he crumbles. If he is a kickboxer or Muay Thai fighter, better take him down and GnP.

this is just my philosophy in MMA most fights go to the ground yes im a striker. and if I am fighting a wrestler then im gonna Box Him and throw punches stand Up... and try to sprawl everytime he trys to take me down.. If Im fighting some average joe Ill go for the early take down and try and ground and Pound Him... dont u think that seems like the right strategy?

I don't know how much skills you possesses on the ground but you started out BBJ not so long ago? If you have the better standup there is no reason for you to go to the ground with it. However if you are losing the standup I think that you might want to consider taking him to the ground, as a last resort. You said you want to GnP him out.. Have you ever tried hitting something on the ground? :confused02: Its slightly different from standing up and hitting stuff.. If no, try hitting some bag or something you put on the floor. But I like the idea of Chileandude, a early takedown can give your opponent the impression that you isn't frightened to go the the ground, that could possible make him frightened to take you down or something (unless ofc he dominates you once on the ground).. :) I think once its time for fight you will just feel if going for a takedown is the right thing vs this opponent or not.. If the guy go for some lock, make sure you tapout in time so you don't get hurt, Ive seen a guy break his arm, its not pretty.. |
i dont understand wtf you just said but ok. im a striker and a boxer but im doing BJJ now... and im gonna fight in MMA 70% or more of MMA fights go to the ground. so if i come out swinging thats me taking a chance if i land i win if i dont land then im a get taken down. So My game Plan is to just rush thru him sweep him on the ground and GNP.... that would be my game plan to win an MMA fight
