Newbie to MMA

Hey everyone, I'm Danalee. Let me tell you a bit about my history.
I was looking to start cardio kickbox as a way to lose weight, and I saw an ad for Tiger Schulmann. I did the 2 class trial, and it wasn't the cardio kickbox I was looking for...they were doing Muay Thai. After the classes, I realized I wanted to actually start getting into MMA seriously, and not the cardio kickboxing after all. I'm looking at 2 centers that offer BJJ, grappling, and Muay Thai, and I eventually want to start fighting competitively. I turned 21 a month ago, and hope that I'm not too old to start. I know I don't have any experience (except for a couple of street fights as a kid, and growing up as the only chick in my family ) but I've grown passionately about the sport in a very short amount of time. I admit I know NOTHING about MMA, and to be honest, I don't care much for watching it (or any other sport for that matter), but I want to become a real fighter. I would love any tips/your experiences/etc. The 2 places near me are Warrington Xtreme MMA & BJJ United in Jenkintown, so any reviews on these places would be very helpful. I look forward to your responses!

I love it when women get into this sport. Props to you for stepping up.

Opinions will vary. Mine is with your background, to find a place your comfortable with that teaches everything (BJJ, MMA, Muay Thai (or something similar), and wrestling). If your goal is to compete, the gym you select must have people that compete. This is also a good test for legitimacy of the gym.

At this stage of the game consistency is everything. Shoot for 4-6 days a week. Start slow to give your body some time to adapt. Be observant of what the more experienced people are doing and ask alot of questions.

Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have further q's

Congrats on the choice to start competing...First off ask as many questions as a newbie to mma the only dumb question is the one you don't ask...jump into training the more. the better but don't over do and you alone know your limits ....and. lastly keep us up to date!!

I agree with G, if you have questions, throw them out there. There are more than enough knowledgeable members here to get your questions answered! Good luck with the training. Work hard and have fun!
