Is height important in Heavyweight?

Ok guys, I'm new to the forums and decided to create this topic about my doubt that has been in my mind forever. I was never a sporty guy till last year, when I found out this club near my house had kickboxing and I decided to subscribe. At the time I was 6'1 and now am 6'1.5 and my armspan is 6'4. Just about 1 year later, they think I have a full potential to go into a new level...heavyweight(currently light heavyweight, 6'1.5 and 194lbs) but the thing, I'm not sure that I want to go over 200lbs+ I always see tall monsters and like 230lbs and my real question is, do I have "stats" to go to heavyweight?I mean, even in UFC they are all like 6'3+ and I think I'm kinda short and not bulked enough. What's more important, height or weight? I think I'm slowly growing and people say "u got huge armspan u still grownin kid" but the truth is I'm 19 years old and I doubt I'll grow 2 inch and half :\
thx

Height is one of the things that is least important imo. MMA history is littered with shorter guys putting beatings on guys with a 5 inch + height advantage.

Size however can be important. At 194lbs if you aren't planning on doing some serious weight training or bulking up i would consider fighting at MW or LHW - definitely not HW.
Skill will always overcome size (see UFC 121) but fighting at HW at less than 200lbs is suicide imo.

Personally i weigh 172lbs and when i boxed i fought at MW which is 160lbs in boxing. To give yourself the best chance of competiting you want to fight at the weight class below your weight that you are closest to - That is oversimplifying but is basically what everyone does.

Your 194 lbs fighting at LHW?

You really need to research weight cutting man, you could be fighting EASILY at MW and possibly at WW.

If memory serves me correctly Thiago Alves cuts almost 25 lbs to get to WW. He is almost 200 lbs.

Yeah, exactly. In my opinion, the only things that really matter are skill, confidence and heart. If you have those three, you can beat anyone.

GSP stated that he walks around at 195lbs.

Yeah man why be a small hw ......Even if you plan to bulk up to 220 do it right put on mass not fat. If you walk around at 194 there is no reason you cant make 185. Period. Your coaches should see this but it sounds to me like they are trying to throw ya in with the sharks. Now if you are walking around at 230 yeah you can have a go at HW. Unless you are just totaly against cutting weight.

Height isn't that important really, you just gotta make do with what you got. Anyway, it's the reach in particular that is important, and you have to know how to use it effectively.

It is not so important what height you have, as long as u can keep your tempo in a fight. Either way, a short person fights differently from a toll person. Its one of them have his original style and all u've got to do is find your own fighting style.

Have fun!
