It's because Jason Collins isn't sh*t. He is a career journeyman & 12th man on the bench. Before his announcement, his only claim to fame was being part of one of six sets twins to play in the NBA. His career was most likely over before he made this announcement. He only made this announcement so that he can financially capitalize on it now that his career is over.

The media needs to start asking the tough questions.

There are no tough questions here, you dunce. Everyone knows Collins is a career journeyman, he's admitted it himself in the interview. He's still the first NBA player to come out of the closet, he'll most likely be followed by many more, and if he ends making some coin off of this, good for him for spotting the opportunity.

I made a thread about this once (without getting banned) I believe the thread came to the conclusion that there was only one openly gay MMA fighter. Shad Smith, who you may recognize from that silly felony fights video where some street thug tries to fight a mma fighter http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Shad-Smith-368

I think everything else is just speculation to this point lol.

It may or may not have any affect on the sport, but worst case the sport loses a bunch of bigoted mouth breathers ... and I'll support gay MMA fighters right to be a part of the sport far more than I would ever support a bigots right not to feel 'all icky'.

Actually John Amaechi was people just for some reason forgot about him.

I know Amaechi was retired and all but it's not like Collins is or was guaranteed a job next year.

Exactly. This isnt the 70's. Any straight thinking person of today is going to assume there are gay sportsmen and athletes. It stands to reason, obviously. Do I need to know who they are? No I don't. I don't want to know any fecking thing about any sportsmans love life. I have zero interest.

I can understand the need to do this decades ago, when the population generally believed no male sportsman could possibly be gay. But, its 20-fecking-13 for fecks sake.

I think it's likelier that some kid will be out, everyone will know, nobody will care, and he'll work his way up the ranks and nobody will care.
