MMA has spoilt Kung-Fu movies for me.

God damn it, once upon a time I used to be able to suspend belief when watching a good Kung Fu movie.

Now I'm like, should have went for the double leg takedown, man that roundhouse kick was telegraphed, that guy needs to watch Bas Ruttens Lethal Street Fighting Techniques Video.

Damn you MMA!

Yeah, they have to be pretty obviously fantasy (like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) for me to get into them anymore, for the same reason. Too hard to not be critical about how blatantly useless a lot of the techniques are.

Yeah the gravity and physics defying stuff are fine, ninja movies ect. But anything that tries to be serious, I'm like, are you ******* kidding me?

For me it has not, I still can enjoy the acrobatics and athletism shown there as long as it's well choreographed (bad choreography was always bad, even before MMA). If I thought too much about realism, I couldn't watch almost any movie.

I understand it could be a let down from our kids fantasies, but after we aknowledge the reality, we think: If they make movies with Liam Neeson kicking butts of several young dudes at the same time, I won't lose admiration for the classic Kung Fu movies starred by real martial artists. The goal was the same fantasious entertainment, but technically executed. Long live Bruce Lee, Jack Chan, Jet li and other competent entertainers.
