You can't avoid it, there will always be ignorance in the forums. You can't generalize the fan pop by a couple of nerds though. I'd say it's safe to say that 90% of the posters that are actually worth reading
on here would agree with you, Matt's paid his dues, he's an excellent fighter, and especially deserves to grab a title shot after Lytle considering his fight resume and number of title defenses.
From my pov I'll tell you why I don't like him, it's his technique. To me, he has a boring style compared to others fighters that need more attention. With an a**hole cherry on top, it's pretty easy to see why Matty wouldn't be a fan fav. Logically Matt is the greatest fighter to hold consistent wins in the UFC's ww division and is a dominant powerhouse. Emotionally I wanna root for the exciting fighter, the guy who puts on good show is all (Karo
) win or lose, the guy that doesn't make me get up for a snack. Win-wise Matt's a monster, but I'd much rather waste my energy on the guys that make me jump out of my seat even if he gets murdered in the first round. I agree with you, Matt deserves more fight-respect, but the people who you're referring to won't see past their "a**hole blanket". There's a lotta people on here who already know Matt Hughes is a great fighter.
