The problem with sports journalism these days, particularly on radio and TV, is that so much of the programming consists of guys like Jay spouting their own opinions, instead of covering what's happening. There's no separation between news and editorial coverage, because these guys are more interested in getting themselves over and providing "entertainment." They're trying to get a rise out of people, just like Mike Freeman was when he referred to a UFC as the "Ultimate Farcical Clown League" and then printed all of the most vulgar and ignorant e-mails he received in response. It's just shock-jocking, plain and simple, and I for one get really tired of it. I wish these guys would just let the popularity of a sport dictate how much coverage they give it and educate themselves a little better so that they don't sound like morons when it comes time to do an interview, instead of focusing on shouting down dissenting callers on phone-in shows. But I suppose that's too much to ask.
