Maybe small joint manipulation is a umbrella term meant to keep guys from using gray-area stuff like bee sting pinches to the quad, eye pokes, smacking the veins on the back of the hand lol.
Did you say smacking the vein??? (snickers)

I'm sure it also applies to toes, fingers and other such small joints. I guess it'd be pretty embarrassing to have to tap because a guy bent back your fingers.

In all seriousness, I started in martial arts with Aikido. The form doesn't translate to the MMA format. Aikido is a defensive art. Your opponent dictates the movements you utilize to neutralize them. All movements are counter movements. On the street, in a bar, etc. wrist locks, throws, and other small joint manipulations are very effective. But in the octogon its not like anyone is going to fall prey to a frickin wrist lock. Therefore, if they come at a Aikido black belt, sure the black belt can execute a throw. But then what? It doesn't make for an exciting match. Aikido is an excellent defensive art that is fluid and can be graceful. But it isn't going to fill up stadiums. And many Aikido practicioners are going to have trouble with the take downs of a Couture, or a KOS. Therefore, ya gotta show up with more than Aikido. However it is still a favorite of mine

Steven Segal in MMA fighting makes me die of laughter just think of him with his mean face on across the ring. Aikido is a mostly a waste of time took it freshman year in college it was horriable bowling is better than Aikido. Ok it is not that bad if your instructor lets you freestyle, but it is unrealistic in my opinion. It helps your reflexes and if your ever attacked with a gun, but hand to hand combat is (more or less) like a staged fight with no to little takedowns. Even though I'm bashing it I'm taking it again this year sadly.

Tito.Ortiz has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Boxers over MMA fighters? Is that a joke.

About little Steven Segal fighting in the mma.. ever heard of a movie called Exit Wounds? Surely youve heard of Fire Down Below? Then youve seen him kick about 50+ full grown men into submission.. hed be a light heavyweight contender easy
