does hype change the way you think about a fighter?

for some reason i've let hype affect my opinions on fighters.

take lyoto machida for instance, before december i liked this guy and thought he'd be a big part of the light heavy weight divisions future. then everyone started talking about him like he was the second coming of jesus. i got tired of all the praise and actually began hating on lyoto instead of his nut huggers. the same thing happened with gsp as well. i think its because i try to be unbiased. when everyone started saying gsp would walk through matt hughes (which he did) i thought how can they count hughes out after all he's accomplished. then i began to favor hughes over gsp to try and counter balance the nuthuggery which took over everyone.

a big part of all this was because of all the hype shogun recieved, then he got beat a tuf winner.

from now on i'm gonna try to ignore the hype and just stick to my opinion

There's no such thing as Lyoto hype, just truth. If that makes you sick of him, then so be it.

I'm sure you'll quote this and say, "See what I mean." I'm just telling the truth, Lyoto is the future, better recognize.

I agree with what Damone is saying, I just think that there's a better way to say it.

You have to be able to see what really is truth and what's just nut hugging.

Lyoto has fantasic skills and Seems to rise to the challenge every time. GSP is the same, these guys have a great chance of being the future of the sport as we know it.

The thing that you have to be able to do is to seperate yourself from what others are saying and just look at the fighters themselves.

Look at their strong points and their weaknesses and do the same to who ever it is they're fighting. If you feel like it's a good match up then praise them and look like a superstar. If it's a bad match up, Call for the upset and look like and even bigger superstar!

The hype will always be there, you just have to find the truth in it and focus on that part alone.

I think everyone does it to an extent. Sometimes it's tempting to get off the bus if it gets too full.

The key is to find guys who you see talent in and think will be the future, then you get in on the ground floor of their bandwagon, and when everyone else joins on, you can be that guy who everyone knows was there first.

I definitely know the feeling of cheering for a guy's opponent just because everyone seems to be riding high on a certain guy. I did the same thing with Chuck Liddell when he was riding high in 05-06, I cheered for guys like Babalu and Tito even though I still picked Chuck to win those fights. Then they matched him up with Page and I smiled because I actually thought he was going to beat Chuck and I was cheering for whoever Chuck was facing regardless.

It's stupid, but MMA fans are very possessive. This sport is still in its infancy, so we still feel very attached to our favorite fighters, and sometimes it's hard watching them get popular. Kind of like watching a band you think only you know about blow up like some John Woo sh*t and get a whole new following of bandwagon hopping fans.

Hype doesnt effect me much, the fighters I've liked, I've always liked and vica versa.

and one other thing is that I'm sick of people called Forrest "TUF Noob" and all that, the guys a completely legit fighter and I think that right now there are only 2 or 3 people in the LHW division who can beat him. The fight with Rampage will be good, and I'm pulling for griffin to win, if not for anything than to show everyone who's saying that that he's a good ass fighter.

I try to see through the hype, but I would be lying if I said it didn't affect me at all. I'm human.
