The reason I put this is the Smacktalk section is that I don't have a link to post or anything. But, I was talking with my BJJ instructor, who is a professional fighter and knows a lot of people that fought in Pride, and he said that a lot of them were on illegal substances, and he believes that is the reason for many of the Pride fighters not doing well in new organizations. You can take from it whatever you want, but for me the "Pride fighters were on steroids" argument has more credibility.

ya i've heard this arguement too but what i want to know is what the specific advantages of steroid use in mma are

i mean is it that much of an aid that you can only win when you're on them and get beat down hard without them?

if that's the case i'd take that shit everyday...small balls and adverse health effects are the price to pay for success jk

Taking steroids in mma helps a lot. You basically get to train at an extremely high intensity every single day and your body can take it.

Another reason appears to be that UFC guys cut more weight than Pride guys and are usually bigger and stronger.

It's possible, in Japan anyone can walk into a pharmacy and get steroids without a prescription.

Wait a minute! If this indeed correct, do you know what this means!? Rampage, the strongest of all them light heavyweights was the only one NOT on roids! Because he's done better for himself in UFC than PRIDE.

Of cource this is a very wild speculation, but this would very indirectly be an indication that my favourite fighter Rampage doesn't take roids (or did take 'em in PRIDE but does better without them anyway!).
