Fedor is probably still the top HW MMA fighter in the world, but there is no longer any legit way to evaluate that. It looks like he will only be fighting cans from here on out it seems.
Plus I'm not sure that his "competition" is strong enough to really motivate him to stay on top of his game. Did you see his belly fat jiggling in the HMC fight recently? Plus did you see how messed up his face was after the fight?

Fedor still fights? Barely.
Fedor had an unbelievable run in 2004-2006 (im including the NYE fight with Nog as 2005) with 2005 being the standout year. Since then though, he hasn't done much. IF this conversation was a year ago, we wouldn't be having it because id be right there with you. But it's 2008, and Fedor hasn't done anything impressive since August 2005 when he beat The CroCop. That's a long time.
Zulu? Please.
Coleman? Over the hill one dimensional fighter.
Hunt? Nowhere near the top 10, but probably the best of the worst.
Lindland? Middleweight.
Choi? Do i really even need to explain this one?
I'll conceed perhaps Randy doesn't deserve to be #1 either, but at least he has done a couple of impressive things recently. He dominated Sylvia for 5 rounds, who like it or not is a top 35, possible top 3 heavyweight who was also the UFC champ. Then he beat Gonzaga, a solid top 10 HW who absolutely dominated The CroCop.
Randy may not deserve the #1 spot, but neither does Fedor imo. I give it to Randy though because he had a good year. If Fedor fights someone in the top 10 soon, ill shoot him straight back to the top of the rankings no problem....but if he doesn't, he will continue to slip not only in my eyes, but everyone elses too.

This whole Randy Couture being #1/2 thing is a joke. No one takes the time to look at the real #2/1 guy whos done more than anyone in his division; Rodrigo Nogueira. A much better resume then both guys and still putting out solid fights.
Fedor hasn't done too much recently but atleast he didn't "come-back" from career ending losses. Randy did, he got his ass kicked a bunch of times before retiring, then came back and had 2 mediocre wins. Fedor's run is completely constant.
So I give Fedor #1 by default, then #2 to Nogueira. If Nog beats Tim and Fedor doesnt fight soon, I give #1 to Nog.

They tried to ink a deal with UFC, everyone blamed Dana for that not working out, so I mean, he's working with what he's got, taking on who are just so much bigger and taller than him, totally out of the "265 pound" weight class the UFC has in place. When you fight guys that big, you're bound to get bruised up a bit, don't you think. He still one, who cares if he got bruised?!?

I've never seen anybody on here say that Randy was #1 in the world they were still saying Fedor, Randy's always been a fan favorite in the UFC so I don't think that is jumping on the bandwagon, what was going on with Sokoudjou was ridiculous.

What if Tim beats Nog and Fedor doesn't fight anyone soon? Is Tim then #1?

Thanks for bringing sense to this conversation. The person with the clear cut #1 resume is Fedor, but if he doesn't fight competition he's going to slip.
But Randy and Nog's resumes aren't even close. Nog is the CLEAR #2.

It has always been about the bandwagons imo lol
This discussion has been going on lots of other places too, I've been reading it all, lots of points brought up. I just can't believe how much credit Fedor's lost because of Pride being bought out
