MMA Smacktalk MMA Smacktalk is for all the cheering, jeering, and smack-talking that you want. This is the stuff that isn't appropriate for the MMA Discussion forum. Rules are light, so if you don't have a sense of humor, then don't go here!

HW was lacklustre so Randy came in and put on a show

Just because nobody likes Tim doesn't take away from the fact he holds a very impressive record.
The CC win wasn't questionable at all. Mirko was dumb for deciding to not train in a cage and with elbows and he paid dearly.

This got moved to smacktalk? I dont see anyone talking smack.
I think this is a good, intelligent, reasonable, civil discussion on the landscape @ HW. What gives?

Well in that case, Couture is 3-4 in his last 7 (or last 3 years).
Nogueira is 10-2 w/1 NC in his last 13 (or last 3 years).
Fedor is 11-0 w/1 NC in his last 12 (or last 3 years).

Like i said. Circumstances more than how good he is has Randy at #1 for me, and as soon as Nog or Fedor fight a top 10 guy and win, they leap frog him. He's keeping the #1 spot toasty warm for one of them.

One reason why the people you mentioned haven't done much in 2007 was because the organization they were fighting in (pride) went bankrupt and was bought by ufc so there was a time when these fighters were transitioning to the ufc and needed time to settle.
IMO i don't think randy could beat Mark Hunt or HMC just because they would be too big for him. Fedor would have prob beaten tim and gg with ease.

The first paragraph is reasonable, but that doesn't change the facts. Infact, it just reinforces my thought that circumstances (Pride dying) have allowed Randy to climb the ladder.
The second paragraph is pure speculation.

The #1 heavyweight in the world right now is Big Nog IMO, he is the best heavyweight out there that is still willing to fight anyone and everyone, Randy only wants to fight Fedor, Fedor is fighting in exhibition fights against freaks and MW's so in my eyes both Randy and Fedor have taken themselves out of the divisions, in order to be ranked you have to be active in the division and I havent figured out how Fedor who hasnt fought another HW in over a year is still considered active and Randy has stated he isnt fighting so he has taken him self off the active roster.

IF this conversation was a year ago, we wouldn't be having it because id be right there with you. But it's 2008, and Fedor hasn't done anything impressive since August 2005 when he beat The CroCop. That's a long time.
Zulu? Please.
Coleman? Over the hill one dimensional fighter.
Hunt? Nowhere near the top 10, but probably the best of the worst.
Lindland? Middleweight.
Choi? Do i really even need to explain this one?
I'll conceed perhaps Randy doesn't deserve to be #1 either, but at least he has done a couple of impressive things recently. He dominated Sylvia for 5 rounds, who like it or not is a top 35, possible top 3 heavyweight who was also the UFC champ. Then he beat Gonzaga, a solid top 10 HW who absolutely dominated The CroCop.
Randy may not deserve the #1 spot, but neither does Fedor imo. I give it to Randy though because he had a good year. If Fedor fights someone in the top 10 soon, ill shoot him straight back to the top of the rankings no problem....but if he doesn't, he will continue to slip not only in my eyes, but everyone elses too.

Well said
