The Steve Mazzagatti Hate thread.
i must say, hate is a strong word, but frigg, whenever i see him get announced to be ref for a fight, i cringe..
the man makes so many mistakes, and constantly under fire for making bad calls..
example 1: Gonzaga vs Hendricks
the poor guy was visably down, Mazzagatti hesitated so Gonzaga clocked him again with a massive shot
example 2: Kevin Burns vs Anthony Johnson
Burns repeatedly poked Johnson in the eye, leading to a serious retinal injury.. THEN Mazzagatti had the audacity to award Burns the win when Johnson couldn't continue?
what the shit?
im sure there are other examples (lesnar vs Mir), that many of you can come up with..
who agrees with me?

Totally. Needs to be fired tbh. I especially after that shit with Burns... when did that happen? I've never heard about that but it seriously needs to be his last reffing job.

The last time I blamed the judges for the Burns vs Johnson fiasco, I was told by other members that it was actually Mazzagatti's fault, but after rewatching the fight I still think I'm right:
Mike Goldberg: "Let's see how the judges and the officials are going to score this. Bruce Buffer has the official decision."
Sure, sometimes Goldie doesn't seem to know what' going on around him, but it was quite a long time of confusion in the cage between the stoppage and the official decision, so I've got to agree with Goldie here that it probably was the judges taking their time trying to figure out what the hell just happened, and that Mazz had nothing to do with it.

The Burns vs Johnson fiasco didn't go the full 15 minutes so the judges should have had no say. Mazzagatti should have determined that an "eye poke" caused Johnson's injury and DQ'ed Burns for repeated illegal strikes. Alas, Mazz f*cked up again.
Mazz's timing on stoppages is terrible too. It looked like Houston Alexander was going to kill Jardine before Mazz intervened.

I agree. I met the guy (he brought his car into Discount Tire Co. where I used to work) and he's nice as hell, but holy crap he makes a lot of mistakes.

Good point... If that was entirely Mazzagatti's fault then there's no doubt that he shouldn't be allowed to ref anymore. I would actually like to write to Inside MMA and ask them to sort this out. At least we know that the NSAC should have its board members replaced for failing to get it even after the dust had cleared.
