Have you ever stopped to think that maybe some of these fighters didn’t want to sign with the UFC? Just because they were under contract with PRIDE does not mean that the contract is transferable to new ownership!
Many fighters that fought in PRIDE and did well may not do as well with American rules. They will be drug tested, they cant kick/knee downed opponents, they cant do much of what they do in Japan and that doesn’t even take the CAGE into account! Maybe these fighters don’t want to fight in America!
Now on to your question “why let it die”?
There is a simple answer to that! It was dead before Zuffa/Dana bought it. The company was loosing money. So why continue on a track that was proven to be unsuccessful? Apparently the Japanese loved to go to fights, but didn’t love to spend the money needed to make the company profitable!
So then you say why not hold PRIDE events in America? That is a moot question. If you were to bring the PRIDE fights to America they would be bound to AMERICAN rules so there would be no advantage to doing so. There would, how ever, be a GREAT disadvantage. All PRIDE fights would be in direct competition with the UFC and there is no business that would ever compete with its self for market share and EVER hope to survive!
