Just because the scale reports 170 lbs doesn't mean that you walk at that weight. GSP is actually closer to 200 lbs than 170 naturally.

I think Thiago Silva will present unusual problems for GSP because he's, in my opinion, more talented and yet just as strong.

The Pitbull WILL **** Rush...mark my words.

Then please...move on to another thread more worthy of your ROYAL attention.

Anyway, my apology for the typo -- I obviously meant Alves not Silva.

GSP is strong but my jaw never drops because of his striking, like when I watch Silva, or his grappling, like when I watch Damien Maia.

He wins because he is very, very strong DESPITE his okay talent.

worst thread ever . The guy HAS to train ridiculously hard to have the explosiveness he does, NO ONE is born with explosive strength like that. I can't believe I'm even posting anything in this! What happened to people just watching the fights and not complaining about every little thing? (ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S LIKE THIS)

Wow guys...neg repping me for an honest opinion -- such maturity.

Anyway, GSP is naturally strong and athletic, that's what makes him explosive. Explosiveness is not learnt in Jiu Jitsu classes or in Muay Thai classes...you either have it or you don't.

GSP has more of it than he has any other skill. Frankly, I think Matt Serra, BJ Penn and Hughes are better on the ground than GSP YET he'll still bully them on the ground with sheer strength.

Guys big news! Strong people are stronger than weaker people! He still has a BJJ blackbelt maybe that has something to do with it.

I'm not talking about his BJJ belt. You don't submit people because you have a bjj black belt, you submit people because you execute submissions in fights -- which St. Pierre rarely does.

You don't get a blackbelt in the first place if your submissions are half assed. He prefers to punch their face in I don't blame him, it's a lot safer than going for a submission and risk being swept.

He doesn't punch either...at least not anymore!!

He tackles you down and then knees you in the ribs until you can't breathe.

YOU, yourself, can get a black belt as well if you wanted one, getting a BJJ black belt is an academic process.

My Brazillian neighbor's brother is a black belt in Jiu Jitsu -- does that automatically mean that he'll e submitting UFC light heavyweights soon?

Either way he is playing it so he doesn't get himself caught in a submission. Smart move in my opinion. I do realize there is a large difference in skill even after blackbelt but it still helps him get control and avoid submissions. Yes strength helps in those situations but I still think you arn't giving him enough credit skillwise.
