this whole things is terrible from a business point of view, lets say they sign fedor and he fights brock, all the casual fans wont have a clue who this guy is and why hes fighting for the belt on his debut! then lets say he beats brock, the ufc looses its champion who is perfect to bring in more fans due to his wwe past which will hurt buys, then the other side of the coin, fedor suxs, gets knocked out then what? hes got a 5 fight deal worth 5 million but looses credibility! and dana pays al that money for nothing, as much as id like to see the fight if u look at it sensibly the deal is stupid!

To be honest though.... even though my friends know nothing about MMA they know who Fedor is because i hyped him up so much. I also think they could get Fedor some attention just based on his HL reel and the list of who he has beaten.

You are looking at it all wrong. If it went this way, which is very likely...: If what you say is true and alot of PPV buyers don't know who Fedor is, then the damn well will when he takes brocks belt. Then he has 5 more fights, he will be a huge draw. Debut, wins belt, people will pay to watch him defend.

Dana is paying in the hope that Fedor wins every fight. He wants to build the draw that Fedor has in japan. He is a perfect Hero. There may be some risk to it. But no one ever got rich jerking off.

Im moving this to smack talk, despite the fact you posed a link its a ludicrous offer that I in no way believe is even close to reality.

If you think the mob is behind the UFC then so be it.
If it was the UFC wouldnt be so mainstream and it wouldnt have major brand sponsors. That doesnt mean the owners arent connected. Even If they are connected it has no relevance to this point because the UFC is much bigger then signing one guy and has proved it. Fedor is the only thing M1 have that is why they are playing such hardball

Firstly, that apparent offer is insane. If those are the real numbers, then obviously something is going on here. Well, obviously there is something going on here anyway.

It's kind of assumed that that this is related to the Russia mafia. Just like the Yakuza is Japan, they make things difficult to get done. Dana alludes to it in multiple interviews. I just wouldn't be convinced that it would all be Fedor not having a choice...

Secondly, if Malkin can sneak away from the Russian Elite Leagues to join the NHL, Fedor can make his own decision without fear. Afterall, when they leave they get paid, and when they come back, they have plenty of business opportunities waiting for them. And they always go back....unless your Pavel Bure and you retire while still scoring 50 goals a year, post up in Miami with strong connections to a Russian mob boss (aka his spiritual leader), and somehow manage to become the general manager of the Russian olympic hockey team. Funny how that works.
