Thumbs down Something I Noticed About MMA Fans..

I notice MMA has a lot more fairweather fans compared to other major sports. Once a fighter loses, it seems a lot of people turn on that fighter saying he's washed up, overrated, a can, etc. Not a whole lot of loyalty, just people jumping on winning bandwagons.

anyone else notice this?

I do but u can't compare a fighter to a sport team. People are connect to teams they see the changes come and go. Fight fans are a fan of the sport as a whole they have their favourite but something better always comes around.

Completely agree.

It has to do with the fact that the audience for this sport is the same audience for WWE. Basically...a bunch of ignorant idiots. UFC is also marketed the same way as WWE.

It's the same kind of fans who are naive enough to believe the storyline of WWE lol hope that's put it into better perspective for you.

I think because, like boxing, MMA is a one man sport. So all the loyalty rests on that fighters shoulders as opposed to an organization (lakers, celtics, yankees). Franchises have a legacy, and also one you lose, especially if you get KO'd, seeing you lifeless on the mat isn't going to help your fan points (MACHIDA).

Even the most loyal fan of a team will turn on a player for his team if he's not helping the team win. He's a bum, a scrub! Get that piece of **** out of _____________!

You could also consider the UFC, WEC, Strikeforce, DREAM, Bellator and so on as teams... One being hugely dominant, but teams none the less...

Then you have fighters from each team fighting for the top spot (Starting QB to compare it to American Football)

Main difference is other sports are based out of cities/states so if you are from there, you have some attachment to them. Individual player loyalty isn't all that great though really, it's still a 'what have you done for me lately' sytem.

MMA tried to do a team thing in IFL but that didn't pan out and I doubt it ever will....although Black-house vs AKA or Jacksons Submission Camp vs Xtreme Couture would be entertaining.
