when I look at his history of fights I dont get impressed he may have 15 title fights but won 8? lost 7 and only successfully defended the title 3 times some of the title fights where for VACANT or interim titles vs imo not the best fighters and in his last 4 fights i have not been impressed coleman is a bum, vera should of won, nog owned him, brock beat him on the feet oh and he got lucky to break Gabes nose with his shoulder in R1

So in concussion he won at HW when it was v weak and moved to LHW when it got too hard

yes im impressed that he has done all this at such an old age thats why he is a legend but not a top fighter

This is my personal opinion so no neg reps please ^^

I can't help, but to agree on this one. Sure he has a great career, but skill wise he is vastly overrated. People think he has "great boxing" just because he boxed in the Army some 15-20 years ago and apperantly can "push the pace unrelentlessly" the whole fight. Skill-wise he's pretty overrated, but he's had a great career and left behind an even greater legacy.

Well for me it's not as much the record as it is who the fought what they have accomplished in those fights and how they fought.

Randy always fought the best his fights were always exciting and won championships problem is now age is finally starting to catch up to him.

Even when he was young, he always looked pretty bad on his feet to me - not much of a striker (has he ever thrown a kick?), and easy to hit. Like I said, I love the dude, he just doesn't have the tools, or the record, to me mentioned as one of the GOATs.

You can't boil it down to just the bare numbers of his record. You have to look at who he was fighting, and Randy was consistently fighting top 10 opponents (and often #'s 1-3) practically his entire career. There is also something to be said for his amazing tendency to win the fights he's not supposed to win.

Reguarding his boxing/striking i have to agree that it isn't/wasn't the best out there, thus kinda overrated.
But the OP and the thread title was "The most overrated fighter in MMA History? - Randy Couture".
So, if you were to answer to this question alone, what would your answer be?
1. Yes he is the most overrated.
2. No he isn't.

For me it's simple: NO! NO WAY!!!!!!

.

BELIEVE!

His influence on the sport will live forever.
Therefore he is a legend.
Legends aren't overrated.

Randy Couture is a bad Mother.. shut yo mouth!. He has not fought bums. He has fought the toughest guys on the planet for the last ten plus years. Maybe some of the guys he has fought look like bums now (Tim Sylvia) but when Randy fought these guys were also bad mother... shut you mouths!, Sylvia is a perfect example, people look at it now and think "O whatever Sylvia sucks", wich he does now, but when Randy fought he was the Champ who no one could beat and no one could take down.

Check out his first match. He fought this Finnish pro wrestling wannabe "tough guy" with zero MMA training. The match was over in less than a minute.

So Couture has fought at least one bum.
