Not a terrible topic, but it's in the wrong section. If it goes to the ground then Gracie takes it. If not the Bruce Lee would kill him. I have to go with my man Bruce though.

Lee's familiarity of the Art of War was infinitely diverse from his studious life-time focus; Lee was trained in Wu Tai Chi Chuan (also known as Ng-ga) and Jing Mo Tam Tui for the twelve sets. Lee also was trained in the martial art Choy Li Fut. Lee's perspectives were wide and never ending still as it included Western Boxing, of the three swords for fencing (épée, sabre and foil) Bruce was trained in Épée, Judo, Praying Mantis, Hsing-I, and Jujitsu.

When Bruce arrived in the U.S he (already) had training in Wu Style Tai Chi, sometimes in Hong Kong called Ng-ga. And he had of course training in western boxing. He had training in fencing from his brother, that's Epee, that goes from toe to head. He had training obviously in Wing Chun. And the other area was the training he had received in Buk Pie, or Tam Toi, he was twelve sets in Tam Toi. And I believe he had traded with a Choy Li Fut man.

And knowing all those different styles would still never of saved him against any established MMA fighter including Royce, maybe Bruce Lee should of just put all his knowlege and effort into the proven solid basis of kick boxing, Jujitsu and Wrestling and he would of been a much more effective MMA fighter.

did you really have to specify 'prime' combatants? I mean, current bruce lee is hardly competition for current royce gracie. Unless you count zombie bruce lee. He kicks ass

Honestly, I don't think Gracie had what it takes to get Bruce to the ground. Bruce is the fastest human being I've ever seen. That said, Bruce takes it.

Bruce lee himself even said that fighting in competition didn't fit JKD. Since it and Kung-fu contain throat strikes, groan shots, and other quick ways to incapacitate their opponents. In a no holds bard fight Lee beats him. In current UFC rules, I think I go with Gracie.
