Marquardt is the ONLY JJ fighter who hasn't subbed Sonnen...and he was subbed by Maia a year and a half ago. How far could he have gotten technically?
He ground out a UD against Miller and Okami, but Okami is a stand-up guy and Miller has lost his last three in terrible fashion. The win over Marquardt is pretty much the only highlight reel in his entire career against groundfighters. But the lowlights, whoa nelly, the lowlights!
Also: anyone who thinks JJ is gay deserved 10 losses, 7 of which are from subs.
But everybody becomes better as a fighter and imporoves if he sees a hole in his game. Sonnen knew he had to do something.. he knew that he will never make it without decent sub defense. Thats all he needs. He's a great wrestler and nobody maybe except Maia can still sub people from his back. And the Maia submission was pretty spectacular^^

Sonnen's chances against Silva are over rated, I would give him a 10% chance of beating Silva and that's because I'm been very generous.
I dont even think his submission defence or rather lack of is going to matter, I have Silva down for a first round KO or TKO standing.
But that the way Sonnen fights. His intention is not to pass Guard into half or Mount position. He likes to stay into peoples Guard and beat them up there. Thats his game!
I give him a 30% Chance in that fight!
He improved as a Mixed Martial Artist.
