I don't necessarily have a problem with a fighter looking out of shape if he's performing well.
Let's face it, Fedor doesn't have the physique of a Greek god, but his cardio is awesome and so is his strength, so I'm not going to complain.
But when a fighter comes out looking out of shape and then fights like sh*t (Sylvia has been a good example, recently), then I don't get it.
These guys train as a full-time job, don't come out and half-ass your way to a decision! That's just f*cking ridiculous.

i agree with most of you guys, that conditioning and cardio are more important. not all fighters have to have a bodybuilder's body. chuck is a bad example honestly, he hasn't been losing recently...although his cardio has not been tested for a while. but yeah, like IronMan i don't have a problem with how their body looks as long as they are performing well.

yeah some fighters look more ripped than others. the ones at the lowest weight classes need to be most ripped just to make weight but other higher weight classes dont need to work quite as hard. anyways, conditioning and muscle endurance are more important than what they look like, although i too dislike looking at tim sylvia

yeah personally i think if training/fighting is your full time job then you need to look the part.
I mean come on you know some of these guys are training 50% the time and enjoying not having to have a real job the other 50% of the time which i feel is sad.
if i could not work and just train full time i would be an animal, i would trade places with almost any of them.

The fighters job is to win fights so if they are winning they are doing their job well. Chick for example, he may not look ripped but how can you say he isn't doing his job?

Those are the guys I have a problem with in MMA. Not the guys who talk sh*t, but the guys who don't work as hard as they should. We'd all be beasts if we did nothing except train.
The point is that there are a bunch of guys that train non-stop but don't really look that buff. Fedor's a good example. So is Josh Barnett. So is Mark Hunt. They aren't all cut like Randy Couture.

Im not saying hes not doing his job, because after all, winning is the most important thing. But because his full time job requires training, there is no reason why he shouldn't be a physical machine.

Next time you should pick someone like BJ Penn. Most people admits he doesnt train hard enough. Which has been his problem in alot of fights.
