Wow ... I read up to chapter 4 of this summary and I can't read any more. If this is a real synopsis, damn Hughes is a complete f*ckwit.

I obviously don't like Hughes. However, I agree with Oldfan and PheelGoodInc - asking for a "corrected" synopsis is pointless. The controversy is whether or not the summary in the OP was bias and accurate. How do you know Oldfan and PheelGoodInc would provide an unbias and an accurate summary themselves? I mean, they could write about how Hughes believed he was Batman. You won't know until you read the book.

Regarding the "not hitting a girl" comment, someone posted about how his sister could probably kick my ass... That sucks? I'll tell you what you can try.
-Avoid the situation. Yes, she's your sister. Yes you'll piss each other off. But remember that she's your sister and try to be amiable with her. In all likelihood, she hates you because of something you did to her as well.
-If you can't avoid it, walk away before it gets to that point. Yeah, some girls are bitches and avoiding things isn't possible. So GTFO...
-If getting out isn't possible, then restrain her when she starts hitting or spanking you... whatever.
-If she's bigger and stronger than you then you really shouldn't be pissing her off which goes back to the first one.

Ari, it's good to get a girl's viewpoint on things, but I don't agree. I held the door for one of my friends and she said, "I can hold the door for myself." I told her that I knew she could and I didn't care. Guys look after women, not beat up on them.

Everyone's done stuff they shouldn't have, but that's not my problem with Hughes. A small part has to do with him having no remorse... a larger part has to do with him being proud of it.

Why does anyone need a corrected summary? Clearly Hughes point of view in the book is skewed to make him seem favorable (hardly) and clearly a critic will summarize it differently.

I think we have all seen and heard enough to judge for ourselves.

Guys look after women? That comment in itself is degrading. We don't live in a primitive hunter-gatherer society where women pick berries and pop out babies, we live in a progressive, much less gender stratified society where women no longer submit to men and hold equal status. I'm not a 'feminist' but I'm pretty damn independent and I sure don't need a guy to "look after me". I love my husband to death, and I know he loves me just as mch as I do. However, I don't expect or want him to "look after me" all the time, and I don't do the same to him either. Part of being an individual is being independent, if a woman can't be independent and look after herself...Well then she's basically a notch below a human being.

The ideas of chivalry, gender stratification, and the "manhood" puzzle are not longer relevant.

I don't condone anybody hitting anyone (unless as I said it's a sanctioned fight or self defense), but if a girl acts like a guy, she should deserve, and be ready to be treated like one.

If you can't laugh at mistakes you've made I don't know what to tell you... My older sister kicked my ass so many times that it was gratifying when I was able to return the favor.

Done plenty of mean things to plenty of people but just laugh about it now and hope they don't hold a grudge. What else can you do?
