A large portion of the book is here online. I linked the page with the pig incident. It's not exactly as depicted but still pretty nasty even to me, and I spent summers on a cattle farm. Castration is a necessity but I never saw anyone start a faux-food fight with the testes and shit and piglet corpses as the piglet lay squealing and bleeding on the ground.

I read the book when it first came out. Hughes def comes off like a typical jock douche, but it wasnt as bad as made out to be by that dudes synopsis. Is Hughes a giant tool? Yup. Is he more of a tool then your standard jock tool? I dont really think so. He is just another athlete that never had to worry about becoming a decent human being with manners and tact, because he started having everything handed to him when people figured out that he was good at spots.
