The "Styles Make Fights" Thread

just put down a fighter that you think could beat another fighter due to a bad style matchup

I think out of anyone in the world chuck liddel has the best style to fight fedor, not to say he'd win..

I think josh koscheck could beat hughes-

by decision as long as hughes didnt catch a sub from the bottom. I have never seen hughes score wins from the bottom and i think he would feel uncomfortable there as he's always been such a dominant wrestler. kos by lay and pray. I hate to say or think it. I dont think hughes even if he did avoid the takedown has much better boxing of the two, his strikes standing are not very effective.

I think hughes could beat diego

hughes would be able to effectively control diego with superior wrestlings and pwoerfull grappling and ground and pound.

and diego over kos-

diego's effective boxing skills and relentless pace he keeps would ware on kos, diego by split or unanimous decision.Kos would take down diego but i bet diego does more damage the time this fight is on the feet than kos does laying on him.

i think gsp could beat all ww's

AMEN to that. Chuck would get rag dolled around the cage/ring

Best style to beat Fedor would be a A level Submission wrestler, someone who is able to put him on his back (just like Hunt/Fujita did) control him on the ground, wear em down, and maybe submit him ........ hmmm sound familiar ? Josh Barnett.

Diego can and will beat GSP, here's why

I don't care what anyone says, GSP's standup is not the best there is. He is accurate, and quick, but he lacks power. Diego's standup is just as good as GSP's, maybe a little better considering Diego has more power behind his shots because of his stance and style.

I think the ground portion will be about equal if it goes to the ground at all. I think GSP can and will take Diego down as many times as Diego takes GSP down and I don't see either of them doing enough damage to each other to end the fight, unless it is late in the fight and one of them is already weak or injured.

I think Diego wins this by keeping it on his feet. His face is basically made of leather. In the Karo fight, Karo was hitting him with bombs, knocking his head back and making it double bounce, but he never broke his skin. I think both GSP and Diego are the most well rounded fighters in the division. I don't think GSP is the end all be all of MMA. He is very good, but I don't think he's as good as people think he is. He is still young, just like Diego, but Diego trains much harder from what I hear. Diego is never out of training for groin injuries or this or that, he trains constantly. Diego has more experience than GSP too, not against better opponents, he just has been in the game longer than GSP has. Watching GSP work his way up to the title made me realize how much motivation actually plays a factor in the fighters performance. I think GSP was so motivated and excited that he just outclassed Hughes. But Diego seems to be much more motivated than GSP ever was. GSP was very anxious and motivated, because you know it took so long for him to finally get a rematch with Hughes and all that. But Diego has been waiting even longer. He's about to get his 20th straight win, he's never lost EVER, he's beaten everyone the UFC has thrown at him and in devastating and convincing fashion, he blew through 3 people on the show to win it, and he still hasn't gotten a title shot yet. I think if Diego uses his motivation the same way GSP did, Diego will outclass GSP when they fight.

Anyone who thinks Diego sucks just because he was chosen to be on the show is retarded. Being on the show just gives him an advantage over GSP, in that he had all that time to do nothing but step up his game, and he prolly still trains like that to this day. GSP didn't have that luxury, and just because GSP wasn't on the show doesn't make him a better fighter. Diego is just as human as GSP is.

Randy Couture would beat Crocop because he has amazing takedown ability and can sub or G&P CC on the ground. Like Chuck Liddell, CC's weak spot is on the ground.

i agree. i think randy has the style to beat cro cop.

but also like chuck liddell CC has amazing takedown defense and we saw what that did for chuck during the last 2 fights and CC can hold his own once on the ground

Randy can beat CroCop?

Really, though. Look at CroCop's track record against wrestlers:

Kevin Randleman Yes, CroCop lost their first fight, but not because of Randleman's takedowns and groundnpound, but because of his strength and aggression. Randleman went balls out, locked CroCop in the corner and caused CroCop to be burn out, as well as over-concern himself with the takedown. We all saw what happened in the second fight.

Mark Coleman Coleman has a different style of wrestling from Couture, but they would both have the same approach to fighting CroCop in that neither should stand with him. The difference is that Coleman is a helluva lot bigger and stronger than Couture, perhaps not in height, but in physical size and the use of it. CroCop handed Coleman his own ass.

Josh Barnett Barnett is bigger, stronger and has better striking skills that Couture. Barnett also dominated Couture when they fought at UFC 36. If anyone remembers the last Barnett v CroCop fight, CroCop mounted Barnett. Further proof that CroCop has a ground game, but also that he is able to control a big, strong grappler on the ground.

Couture doesn't match up well with CroCop at all. He is going to end up having to close the distance by going straight into CroCop, and that's how Mirko beat TK. It's not even that interesting a matchup, because CroCop has fought so many guys like Couture.

I agree with you 100%. I also find it strange how almost everyone on these boards said Couture is gonna die when he fights Cro Cop (This was before he fought Sylvia) Now that Couture beat Sylvia, we all of a suddon have this board swarmed with people saying he can take Mirko. I dont mean to be a **** but just because he beat Sylvia doesn't mean hes gonna beat Mirko, Randy devised a great gameplan against Sylvia and beat him with it because Sylvia has a whole shitload of holes in his game.

Mirko is strong everywhere, and yes, like Ironman said he DOES have a groundgame, and a pretty good one.
