I'm hating on the chain... just because I can, and all of those that hate on the spelling, get a job. ANNNND I'm black so I'm not being a racist. The chain is just stupid.

He's marketing himself, giving himself an image people can recognise and as far as I can see it's worked pretty well for him.
Maybe you can explain in more depth the exact issue you're having with the chain......it's a chain.

So let the downvotes begin but please for the love of God, somebody shed some light on this stupid chain thing.
Jeez, whats wrong with you? Are you 12 years old? Either that or you took the wrong pills.
Always a great idea to address all the other as a-holes right away....

You need to remember that Rampage started fighting in Japan were gimmicks are more the norm than we are used to seeing in the US due to the link between MMA and prowrestling being more direct due to the countries history with Pancrase. When Rampage fought in Japan early in his career it made him a an mediately identifiable character and intrigued the fans which made him stand out more than just a regular American fighter. Now its become so linked to his persona in the sport that it would be silly to lose it at this stage.

I've never thought about it like that. Some are better off with the old gimmicks though, like Overeem who went from The Demolition Man to The Reem.

True but remember that the Demolition Man used to carry around that big caveman hammer? It was a gimmick. King Mo and his crown and umbrella, etc etc. In America MMA is all about the spot in Japan its about the spectacle with the flashy entrances and larger than life characters. The lack of characters today in Japanese MMA is what is killing it IMO. They lost track of that grand show that Pride was and companies like Dream have been more of a UFC style Pride show. They never reached the same level of spectacle that Pride had.

Rampage actually started wearing the chain in his wrestling days as a youth. I think I remember him saying once that his brother put a chain around his neck to boost his confidence level before a match, because he was timid back in the day. He just carried that part with him in MMA as part of his persona. It might be a gimmick to us, but to him I'm sure it is quite meaningful.
