Anderson Silva (24-4 MMA, 9-0 UFC, #1 IWMMAR) may very well be the greatest mixed martial artist in history. He’s dominated every fight he’s been in, destroyed any opponent who attempts to mix it up with him and he’s already established himself as a dominant force in the middleweight division, and is looking to work his way into the highly competitive lightheavyweight division.
Still, with four fights left on his UFC contract, which he has publicly and repeatedly stated will make the end of his mixed martial arts career, Silva is looking towards legacy building outside of the cage with
a boxing match against a pugilistic legend. It’s been discussed a great deal already, but now that Anderson has announced that there are contracts that have been signed, it merits revisiting.
Of course, Anderson Silva is a phenomenal striker, but stepping in with
Roy Jones Jr. (53-5 Boxing, 39 KO’s) is more of a nostalgic project for Anderson than anything. Jones will not help Anderson establish himself as a great boxer, as the pugilist past his prime in 2003, when he went on a skid dropping two fights to
Antonio Tarver (27-6 Boxing, 19 KO’s), with one loss by knockout, and getting KO’d by
Glen Johnson (49-12-2 Boxing, 33 KO’s).
