Just How Important is Machida vs Shogun?

Just how important is Machida Vs Shogun for the UFC Lightheavy Weight Division?

The truth is... this is one of the most important fights the UFC has had in a while. Two Top fighters from two completely different camps with two completely different fight styles. Two fighters who could be argued easily as the top two in the 205 division world wide. But these reasons are not why this fight is so important, they just feed the fire.

Machida has had some astonishing victories over top opponents in the UFC, beating Tito Ortiz, Rashad Evans, and Thiago Silva. Not only did he beat these top named fighters he seemed to do it with ease. His devotion and hard work for his sport of Machida Karate has helped to propel himself to the top of the division. He has fast, hard, straight punches, his kicks are numbing, and his take down defense is bar none. I highly doubt he will underestimate Rua by any means.

On the other side of the spectrum you have Shogun Rua. A Pride veteran, whose only losses have been by submissions. A Chute Boxe fighter with very good striking and a very good ground game, one of the most well rounded fighters around, and has a lot of experience. His victories over top named fighters such as, Alistair Overheem, Chuck Liddell, Ricardo Arona, and Rampage Jackson, show just how tuff and how good a fighter Shogun Rua is.

To answer the question of how important this fight is, well thats simple. See if Machida is able to come out and obliterate Rua then he will be the most feared 205 fighter in the world. This would propel his rankings pound for pound and would give Machida an opportunity to start a long title holding streak.

On the other hand, if Rua is able to come in and pull off a TKO victory on the champ Machida then Rua could once again be categorized as one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world. His nice KO victory over Chuck Liddell has probably put a lot of confidence in his hands. Look for Rua to come on strong the entire fight.

Regardless of the outcome, this is going to be a fight for the ages. The two styles match up very nicely and I think this could be one of the best UFC Main contests in a while.
