NYT on Christian Fighters
Well, here's my latest. I think it's a good piece, so I hope you guys enjoy it.

Of course, the “warrior-pastor” syndrome is not something that’s new to MMA. Kimo Leopoldo’s famous ring entrance at UFC 3, with a cross on his back and a huge tattoo of the word “Jesus” across his stomach is case-in-point.
I will say this: the decision to focus on Ohio-based groups like the Canyon Creek Church (which has been on my radar for a little while) is a little weird and, of course, misses some huge components in the overall history of the sport. But this is the New York Times, so I don’t expect the writers to have a background in what they’re writing about.

Excellent article as usual Ironman. I don't expect mainstream media to ever write a fully knowledgeable piece on any aspect of MMA. At least until someone who actually studies the sport starts writing for the Times(maybe you for example...)

Haha, I'd love to write for the New York Times. Well... I'd love to get paid for writing for the New York Times (also, it looks pretty awesome on a resume).
I don't know about the job security, though, the way that newspaper's are doing right now. And, personally, I really like being my own boss.
That said, they could really use someone who actually knows the sport.

Haha, yeah.
If they asked for a piece, I'd definitely say yes.

Is Ryan Dobson related to the infamous Dr. Dobson, who gives out such sage child-rearing advice?

If you mean "Dr." James Dobson of Focus on the Family, then yes.

That bastard is on my short list of men I would like to beat down (Along with Screech and Lars Ulrich). I figured there was some connection.
Like a lot of other things that are fun, MMA is legal on the reservation, and although it hasn't been mentioned publicly, I think the state may be trying to keep MMA on the reservations to distract the various Native American nations from the fact that the state is once again attempting to tax cigarettes, gas, etc. currently sold on reservation land.

That's an interesting theory.
The reading I've done has indicated that there's heavy opposition to MMA in many of the unions, and that seems to be a pretty big deal in New York.
The unions make up a huge portion of the special interests in New York politics, and while I can see pacifying the leaders on the reservation as a substantial motivator, satisfying one of the requests of a large special interest is definitely a big deal.

You could argue that unions are very powerful everywhere.
It's very frustrating to me that NY, while being in such dire financial straits, is opposing the legalization of a huge potential revenue source in such a staunch manner.
