Live From Thailand (Muay Thai Journal)

Hey Guys,

I've come to Thailand for 10 months. I'm going to be hitting up gyms all over the country and documenting my experiences on http://fightpassport.com/

I just kind of got sick of the same routine in Canada and since I'm 25, not married and I didn't have anything really to keep me from doing this, I just bought a ticket, packed my training gear and came.

As I'm writing this, I'm in Pattaya (which is about 2 hrs from Bangkok). I've trained at 3 gyms already and today I went to Sityodtong. Sityodtong was amazing! I took some video tours of the camp that I'll be uploading soon for you guys to see.

Also, if you guys have any questions at all, just let me know. I'll be checking this thread almost everyday since I just checked into a place with WIFI internet.

I'll be going to as many camps as I possibly can so if you're thinking of going to a specific camp, I'll try my best to visit it in my journey and gather some information for you.

That's all for now. I'll post up the Sityodtong vids soon and I'll just post some of the other crazy stuff I've been getting on film. Pattaya is a pretty crazy place

Again, anything you want to know .. ask away!

Damn man I can honestly say I'm jealous. I've always wanted to go to Thailand for Muay Thai training.

I have a question: how much did it cost? (hope that isn't a rude question)

Have you been to the gym where Kenny Florian trained? I believe it was in Pattaya, but I don't remember the name of the gym. It would be interesting to hear what it's like there.

Do you speak thai? If not, how easy is it to arrange accommodations/train at Thai gyms? Do alot of Thais speak english as a second language?

Approximately how much money do you estimate you'll spend over the course of ~6 months, including plane tickets, training, accommodations, food, taxi/vehicle rental, ect?

I've heard good things about Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket. I'd like to hear your opinion on how it measures up to other gyms in terms of accommodations, training, # of english speakers there, cost, surrounding area, ect.

Tiger muay thai is where I went and loved it.

It'll be cool to experience a ton of different gyms, but clearly it'll be a good idea to find a gym you like and settle into it for a few months. You can make much more consistent improvements this way.

I don't speak Thai. It's very easy to arrange accomodations but honestly, most of the camps jack up the prices for foreign students because they know they have the money. You can usually find a cheaper room NEAR the camp on your own. I'm paying 200 a month right now for a nice condo (Florida retirement style) with a huge pool, 24hr security etc.

I've heard good things about Tiger as well and I'll be training there next month. Most of the trainers can speak engish english to get their point across. If their english is poor, it'll just come down to body language. If you do something wrong, they'll just say "Mai-Ow" which means NO, and show you the right way.

Not rude at all. Most common question I get actually.

Did an entire post all about the costs associated with training Muay Thai in Thailand.

Sityodtong is the name of the gym and yup, I spent some time training there.

That's one of the entries I wrote about the camp.
