question about kicks
last class I attended we spent the last ten minutes of class with partners and kick shields. The partner put the shield anywhere he wanted and we had to kick where ever it was. And while that was going on, I was introduced to the teep kick.
now the question : when doing it, do you just kick straight forward (sort of like spartan kick in 300?) or is there more to it? any extra technique or the like? |
The what?
The kick in the 300 looked like a push kick to me. |
well i guess i had no idea what i was doing, because I was doing push kicks then. So.. anyone care to explain how to do a teep kick?
|
A teep kick is used to keep distance, or to setup combos. There is more to a teep then kicking straight forward. You should ask your instructor how to execute a proper teep. There are probably tutorials on youtube about teeps.

Use the ball of your foot and rock your hips forward. This is where the power comes from. I'm still perfecting my technique on this also. I've sparred with people who are very good with this kick and get tooled almost every time. There are counters however

ill give it a shot tonight if we do. I dunno if well do teeps, but i know well be doing kicks of some sort.
