Luiz Alves: “Brock has no gas for 5 rounds”

Rodrigo Minotauro and Junior dos Santos’ Muay Thai’s coach, Luiz Alves is more than satisfied with the victories on UFC. Back to the gym, Luiz focus on Rogério Minotouro’ next fight, against Luis Cane. In exclusive interview to TATAME.com, the coach also talked about Vitor Belfort’s victory, using the Karate against Rich Franklin and the possible fight between Minotauro and Brock Lesnar. “That’s a really tough fight to Rodrigo, but it’s not impossible... Against Brock, I think we have to be worried about the first round. Standing well, we’ll grow a lot on the second, start to speed, push, and Brock doesn’t have gas to fight five rounds”, bets the coach, in the interview you can read here tomorrow.

People here are seriously overrating Lesnar. The guy seemed gassed after 2 rounds with Randy and looked completely out of breath after the Herring fight which was basically almost all LnPing. People also seem to think of Lesnar as an "unstoppable takedown machine who could easily take down a wild hippo", but the fact is Herring stuffed a couple of his takedowns. Why does no one ever bring that up?

You're obviously new to MMA so I'm going to help you out. Go here and watch some of the battles and wars Nogueira has been in against fighters far superior to Brock friggen flavor of the month Lesnar. Then once you've learned how moronic your comment was come back and delete your account and start over.

I think Brock has the best cardio of all HWs in the UFC. He already went 3 rounds without gassing. He was sweating and all, but when the fight was over he was dancing around laughing and you don't do that when you're gassed. I'm actually pretty condident that he won't gas until round 5, especially if he's on top all the time. And if he is, there will not be a fifth round.

Brock wouldn't need gas for five rounds. He'd finish either fighter in 2. Dos Santos beat an old Cro Cop, and Nog decisioned an old Couture, a legendary fighter but one whos been finished nine times. Either one would resemble hamberger meat after Brock finished with them.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't trolling defined by posting ridiculous, controversial or pervocative things to get a reaction and attention?

Because if that definition is true it doesn't apply to me because I truly and strongly believe what I'm posting about. To be honest I'm a little surprised that I got a warning or that I offended anyone. I guess what I wrote sounded harsher when read than I meant it to and for that I apologize.

Fair enough, then I'll proceed to explain the reason behind my opinion -- reason which could very well be flawed, however I believe it to be correct.

First, I'll start off with saying Brock has improved dramatically with each of his fights. I think there are several reasons for this. I believe his first loss, to Frank Mir essentially guided the defensive focus and heavy ground control he's now begun to demonstrate.

He's training with Greg Nelson, a very versatile coach who has the ability to bring in guys like Rodrigo Medeiros, to help prepare him for opponents like Mir and Nog on the ground. It is also my opinion that due to the quick pace in which MMA evolves at, a fighter's skill can only be measured by his last fight, which luckily for Brock was an impressive demonstration of ground control over Frank Mir.

Not only do I think Brock is going to be too athletic and strong for Nog to control on the ground, but I believe because of who he's training with and how much he's improved recently, that Nog will be controlled on the ground in a similar fashion that Mir was. Something which in my mind feels like a logical deduction. I also think posting Nog's old fights is rather redundant. Most of us know the wars he's been in, but we also have people like Frank Mir and Mirko Cro Cop to remind us how different the up and coming Heavy Weights are, athletically. Nog has never fought someone with the speed, power, and wrestling of Lesnar combined into one.

Brock did 3 rounds against Herring. Also, regards Couture, taking deep breaths doesn't equal gassing. The evidence of gassing is in the action not the breathing. A gassed fighter has no spring or dynamics in his movement. As I remember it, soon as Lesnar dropped Randy he was all over him in lightning speed dropping hammerfists and elbows at quite some pace. Lesnar gassing? ... my arse he was.

Have to agree. Taking deep breaths with mouth bitween rounds doesn't equal gassing.
What I find weird though that Nog's trainers keep worrying about Brock's gas. They should worry more about Cane's kickboxing at the moment because there is a good chance Nog is getting KTFO if he lets his mind wander too much.
Anyway as many said already, I don't think Nog is the fighter to take Brock to a 5 round decision anyway. Nog had huge problems standing with Sylvia and got destroyed by Mir. Nog May not be as technical as Mir but he sure has the KO power to drop Nog the way he dropped Mir (in first fight) Herring and Randy.
Personally Im surprised if Nog gets to 3rd round. Brock has shown excellent ground control and followed his game plan vs. Mir perfectly, so if he does same thing he did against Mir I think he wins the fight already. Though Im not surprised if he chooses to strike with Nog for a bit too.

I would put money on it that Brock has the gas to go 5 rounds with no problem, this guy must have watch TUF 10 second fight and said see big guys have no gas. I mean look Brock had to have good cardio in WWE. He didn't take breaks every 3 minutes when he wrestled. He had to have cardio to last 30 minutes in a ring throwing guys around or doing certain moves. Plus he has good enough cardio to play football, even the scouts said he had freakish strength, speed, and ability's. So we will have to see, if anyone can take him in to 4 or 5 rounds.
