What happened to The Ultimate Fighter? It seems as though the show doesn't look for true talent anymore. Perfect example being the latest season, TUF 10. When you look at TUF 1, you get big names like Josh Koscheck, Forrest Griffin, Kenny Florian, Diego Sanchez, Mike Swick, Nate Quarry and Chris Leben. I don't expect any other shows to provide as many genuinely talented fighters as TUF 1 has but it should at least be close. Don't get me wrong, the other TUFs have provided some talent but nowhere near the amount of TUF 1.

Its not that hard to figure out, The first season had more talented guys because they had a larger base to choose from, so they got the most talented guys they can get. Obviously if you pick the most talented people within the first 2-3 seasons, you will be left with more raw fighters near the end. Dont expect too many developed fighters already heading into TUF, you will most likely see fighters try to develop in TuF and once they get out.

number of fighters from respective seasons still in the ufc:

TUF 1: 8 (Griffin, Bonnar, Swick, Florian, Koshcheck, Sanchez, Quarry, Leben)
TUF 2: 5 (Stevenson, Davis, Guillard, Jardine, Evans)
TUF 3: 4 (Grove, Herman, Bisping, Hammil)
TUF 4: 5 (Rivera, Lytle, Serra, Cote, Sell)
TUF 5: 6 (Maynard, Wiman, Lauzon, Emerson, Miller, Diaz) (Also Gamburyan in WEC)
TUF 6: 3 (Danzig, Saunders, Sotiropoulos)
TUF 7: 5 (Dolloway, Riddle, Brown, Sadollah, Credeur)
TUF 8: 8 (Escudero, Nover, Kingsbury, Bader, Nelson, Soszynski, Marshall, Lawlor
TUF 9: 6 (Dent, Pearson, Johnson, Wilks, Osipszak, Winner)

TUF 6 was the worst season with only 3 dudes still in the UFC, and one of them is Danzig who has lost 3 on the pop and may be getting cut. Sotiropoulos and Saunders are shining though.

I think alot of it has to do wth the growth of the UFC was at a pivotal point and they were launched into the mainstream with Forrest / Bonnar and the Diego fight.....

They grew the company, I think there has been a slight decline in talent sought out since the show started...

Good thread.....There are guys that may be beter in 4 yrs from now from the show, but who really....Bader to me happens to imo be one of the better guys that has come out.......Jardine is decent, but not a serious contender, obviously Rashad is a good fighter and I feel bisping has had a padded schedule of opponents on purpose....

EDIIT: Grove, Nate Diaz and Maynard are good fighters imho.....the rest are sub....and grove is slipping....

Disregard of the number still in the UFC. Or how snazzy they look nowadays as they fight. What matters isn't the shotgun theory, its how many have a legitimate shot at a title in their weight class. Few if any.

Forrest is about the only one who I ever watched and said, yupp, he might have the gonads to get a title opportunity. But look at these fucks in 10...Lesner could knock the shit out of any of them from his hospital bed. Its pitiful.

I'm a little worried the UFC cares less about raw talent and more about pisspoor personalities and big names. Which is really sad I think.
