The matchups for the HW Final on Dec. 11th from Yokohama are...

Mighty Mo vs Peter Aerts
Semmy Schilt vs Kyotaro
Gokhan Saki vs Daniel Ghita
Alistair Overeem vs Tyrone Spong

The Mo/Aerts winner faces the Schilt/Kyotaro winner
The Saki/Ghita winner faces the Overeem/Spong winner

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The MAX Finals are on November 8th:

Mike Zambidis vs Yuichiro Nagashima
Albert Kraus vs Giorgio Petrosyan
Gago Drago vs Muhammed Khamal
Michal Glogowski vs Yoshihiro Sato

The Zambidis/Nahashima winner fights the Kraus/Petrosyan winner
The Drago/Khamal winner fights the Glogowski/Sato winner

Schilt vs Overeem and Petrosyan vs Sato in the two championship finals anybody else think?

HKL says this about the matchups:

Some big matches in here, with some new match ups that we have not seen before. Peter Aerts taking on Mighty Mo seems to almost ensure Aerts moves on to the next round, but Mo packs a heavy punch and could be a spoiler. Kyotaro is a crafty and careful fighter, but will he be able to get on the inside and take it to Semmy Schilt? Kyotaro has always been a counter-strikers, and Semmy Schilt rarely makes a mistake. Gokhan Saki taking on Daniel Ghita is the most compelling match of the lot, a total toss-up. Tyrone Spong has a giant task in front of him as he'll step into his first K-1 World Grand Prix against the Demolition Man Alistair Overeem. There is nothing but solid, competitive matches on the MAX side, with Zambo taking on Nagashima being a competitive bout, with Zambidis having a good shot of taking Nagashima down, but Nagashima has been on fire this year. Albert Kraus and Giorgio Petrosyan is just mind blowing. Drago and Mootje Khamal is a fight that Drago will need to take very seriously and the type of fight that will motivate him. Then the young Glogowski takes on Sato, who will not only challenge him, but potentially give him the biggest challenge in his career.

Both events have shaped up to be absolutely epic so far.

Aerts is the man. I hope he pulls this off, but I dont think he will. On another note, I would like to see Reem/Saki fight when Saki's ribs arent already crushed.

Shit, Schiavello just tweeted that Aerts may be out and Semmy might be facing the Reem in the final.

Good deal, Aerts still in. Sergey's music is creeping me out.

Wonder what would have happened to Overeem without those last two fights coming against hurt fighters that had a harder road to the finals than him. After round 1 of the first fight against Spong, it was all Overeem tonight though. Might have made little difference either way. Was a fun show, but time to get some sleep.

@dudeabides

I dont think it would have made much of a difference. The Reem was on tonight.

Maybe Saki would have given him more trouble but Aerts plays right into Reems style.

Watching Overeem vs Saki now, how sick was that spinning hook kick from Saki! Shame Saki was injured really, as he was beating Overeem with his speed and movement. It did just seem inevitable that Reem would catch him against the ropes, or in the corner and decimate him though, even when Saki was doing well. Great fight. Reem is a beast!

Yeah, congrats to the reem, but he has to have had the easiest path to the crown in K1 history. In his first fight, he had trouble with Spong. Dont get me wrong, Spong is one of the most talented fighters on the planet, but he has not business fighting superheavyweights. In the Reems second fight, he faced an already broken Saki. Wow, he kicked Saki twice on his broken side. Congrats, he finished off what Ghita started. In the final, the reem finished off forty year old peter aerts who had a war with Semmy in his semi final fight and was barely approved to fight in the final. Aerts is a legend, but he clearly blew his load against Semmy. All that aside, lets just pretend that everyone had made it through with fewer injuries, two of the better fighters in K1 (in Remy's case, K1 history) were absent from the tournament (If you dont know anything about K1, im talking about Badr Hari and Remy Bonjasky). This was a weak year in K1 and Alistair was able to take advantage of other peoples hard fights. He couldnt even come close to finishing Spong (the same guy that Nathan Corbett kicked the shit out of and Saki KO'ed). Dont fool yourself folks, Overeem is nowhere near the best kickboxer on the planet, he just so happened to fall into a perfect scenario for himself. I would bet my left kidney that Saki could finish him if he were fresh.

It was a really weak field but I don't think Overeem really had that much trouble with Spong who is all kinds of skilled and was really fired up. Overeem is just very patient and fights smart not giving his opponents many openings I don't think hardly any of those punches in the first got through. If Badr and Remy were in the field he wouldn't have won but all credit due he got through the tournament without really suffering much of any damage.

I think we all knew Saki and Ghita were going to beat on each other so badly whoever won was going to be done when the draw was announced but I am glad we got to see that fight.

Does anyone else find it odd that Teixeira getting his face caved in by Overeem apparently made his balls drop? He used to always pussyfoot around now he is taking it to guys and I thought he got robbed in the final 16 against Aerts.

Pretty much agree.
But, i think Overeem would have beaten Bonjasky no matter what.
With Hari, i have my doubt.
No matter how stupid or irational that guy sometimes acts, i consider him the best K1 fighter atm. When he's in-shape, motivated and focused, he looks like a beast.
Hari's main problem is his mind!

Im not blindly hating dude. Everything that I posted is fairly accurate. Saki hits like a truck and is extremely fast. The Reem doesnt have a great chin, Saki could def put him away if he were healthy.
Look.
I'll admit to something.

If an in-shape motivated Badr hari would have participated in this tournament, he would have been my first choice.
And Overeem my second favorite to win it.

Schilt look like crap. Even in Final Elimination he didn't look that good. Fighters have learned to take the fight to Schilt, because that's his biggest weakness. If you let him dictate the pace you are pretty much done. If you start aggressively like Aerts or Hari, you have great chances of beating him.

Saki hits hard, no doubt. But he didn't hurt Overeem in this fight, With or without the injury, i still think Overeem would have beaten Saki on that night.
As far as Saki being damaged after the Ghita fight and Overeem being healthy and fresh: well excuse me!!! This is a pyramid tournament, 3 fights on one night. The main focus for one fighter is/should be winning the fight and taking minimal damage in the fights.
Saki had a war with Ghita. So what?! He should have been more careful and tried to win that fight, without getting his ribs and arms destroyed in the process.
Same goes for Aerts.

Overeem fights smart. He doesn't burn himself out, he is calculated and tries to inflict maximum damage with minimal effort. He took care of his body and energy level and ended up winning.

And it's not like he is the first GP Winner that took advantage of the other fighters burning themselves out: Ernesto Hoost won the 2002 tournament after losing in the quartefinals to Sapp and taking his place in the semis, Sapp being injured. And in the finals he beat LeBanner who broke his arm, just like Saki against Overeem.

What about Remy Bonjasky?! In 2008 he took advantage from LeBanner's arm injury in the QF, beat Saki in the SF, who AGAIN, cme in that fight beat-up and exhausted and in the Final it was that famous DQ of Hari for hitting a downed opponent.
Or in 2003, he had to beat Graham, Abidi and Musashi to win the tournament. Kinda easy!

Fact is!
This year's tournament benefited from the presence of the best fighters in the world, with 2 exceptions: Hari and Bonjasky.
Replace Kyotaro and Mo with these 2 and you have the perfect tournament.

I still think he would have beaten Bonjasky.
With Hari i don't know. That guy is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He can be amazing or a time bomb, ready to go off.
